Who was peak? Was Stones a World beater? Was Kyle Walker a World Beater? Laporte never got a national team call-up. Is Mendy the one that should guarantee a trophy?

There was a steady increase in the quality of every player. They all improved. Otamendi went from a defensive lynch pin to one of the best passing defenders around. Stones improved drastically. Sterling had people asking if he was the same player bought.

You can not buy such improvements with money.
all these players are 50 something million players you think any arsenal player can go for that price? Bros they were all world class before Fraudiola bought them, why can't he turn to the EDS and make those ones world class

Kai you don’t want a coach that won Silver and bronze for U23.Are you saying Siasia didn’t picked the best?Pls tell me the best players that missed 2005 U20,2008 U23 and 2016 U 23.

Pls when it comes to youth football give it to Siasia.

For me, youth football is not about trophies.

Clubs here usually sit in their offices and expect deals to come and meet them. Such dullness

The big boys of NPFL can pull sponsors left & right if they actually go out and attract them.
I don't really blame the clubs, they are government tied and are subjected to some idiotic bureaucracy. It will take a magic wand to wean them off these State Government. And a good number of clubs can survive on their own.

My brother I am just fatigued by the whole situation. These people are bent on doing the bare minimum. I mean what does it take to carry a camera to the top of your stands and record a football match? Even if no one will show it why not put it on youtube? Like the saying goes common sense is not so common.

Interesting comment;

So we are faced with a team where the back 4 and keeper for example as shown in their win against Man Utd comprised of the following;

Ederson - £ 36m
Walker - £47m
Stones - £50m
Mendy - £52m
Laporte - £59m

Total = £244m + add ons!!

What was your argument again? I really don't understand.

I dont know of any defence line in the history of the world that plays with that amount of talent in terms of value in pounds and pence. Correct me.

What exactly will alampasu do,dt enzenwa won't do or hasn't been doing? undecided

If we look @ ezenwa stat as a gk for super eagles,he hasn't done badly

That is the question. Alampasu is the younger one. Why do we continue striving with an older one rooted in the local league while Alampasu is younger and has the chance of progressing in Europe.

They cost so much due to the inflation in the market. Not because we were buying World Class players that will hand us the titles. A lot of work was done on these players especially, Stones, Otamendi, Walker and keep in mind we have barely had a run with Mendy. We have to use the likes of Delph, Zinchenko, Danilo and Laporte to cover the left.

Trying to make it look as if money is the root of the success is definitely not true.

Some times some of these Clubs purposefully decide not to have these games covered because they don't want to expose their sinful acts to the whole world.

I recall one season when Super Sports once visited Akure to televise Sunshine stars' last game of the season. A game that was to decide their relegation status. They chased the Super Sports crew away because they had already perfected their Match fixing strategies.

If inflation was the only reason they assembled a defence line of a quarter of a billion pounds sterling, then how come other teams have not done the same. Does inflation only affect one team?

Guardiola's predecessor won the league with Demichelis in his defence. He managed a crap player and turn him to a title winner.

ALL managers appointed by Sheikh Mansour have ALL won the League. ALL!!!

ALL managers Guardiola took over from in his previous clubs had won their respective leagues prior to his arrival. ALL!!!

ALL managers that took over from Guardiola after his leaving a club ALL won their domestic leagues. ALL!!!

Guardiola is not special...

Man City are a second division club by DNA. They have spent about as much time in division 2 as they have in the top division since the inception of the premier league...

Man City are a second division club, its in their DNA. They have spent about as much time in division 2 as they have in the top division since the inception of the premier league...

“We had a great time when Pep was here (Barcelona). We won a lot of titles and I grew a lot – that was the time when I grew most as a footballer. We had a fantastic relationship when he was here.

– Lionel Messi

“He is an incredible coach on a completely different level in terms of tactics,” he said. “He’s a brilliant coach and I’m sure he’ll do a great job [at City]. “He really helps players develop and he even helped me improve at the age of 30. With Pep it’s more than just about winning trophies. You’re always measured by the number of trophies but he developed a lot of players with the way he thinks about tactics, the way he analyses games and prepares teams for particular opponents.”

– Phillip Lahm

“I had to learn a few things in the first couple of months but Pep was able to see he could get the best out of me to help the team. I’m in my second year with him, I’ve learned a lot and working with him has been just what I needed. Pep looks at everything we need to do. I watched what I ate and I trained at home. I know the little things are important too. Pep thinks about football 24 hours a day. He covers every angle to the smallest detail and he always demands 100 per cent in training and in games.”

– Robert Lewandowski

“I have learned a lot from Pep. He’s a genius. I can learn more from him in an hour than from others in one year. He not only lifts you to the next level on the pitch, but also in your mind. He has revealed totally new options to me. I did not know that was possible when I got to Munich. He found a new position for me.”

– Douglas Costa

“Since he came I think I’ve improved my game — especially technically. I think we’re all really thankful that he was here for three years and he made everybody better in the game and us as a team.

– Jerome Boateng

“The coach is very demanding but it’s really amazing to train with him. It’s like he reinvented football. He thinks about football 24 hours a day, he’s always explaining to us on the screen what’s the best way to attack, best way to defend, the best way to play with the ball.

– David Alaba

“This year I reckon those people and everyone out there will see what kind of a manager he is. For me, Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world. So, from a coaching aspect, I learn more from Guardiola than anyone else. He’s an inspiration to loads of coaches, including myself, because he’ll do things a lot of other managers wouldn’t dream of doing.

– Craig Bellamy

“[Pep] helped me so much. I can say he changed my game completely, I improved so much with so many issues, and he still tries to be perfect and to give me pressure. I think I need it too. He reminds me all the time to work more, work harder, and think about what I’m not so good at.

– Leroy Sane

“He is more like a genius who reads the game and covers every situation imaginable. He is always showing us how to create space and find solutions and there is no manager like him, which makes him probably the best in the world.”

– Ilkay Gundogan

“I had been told really good things about him and he has lived up to them. He’s the best manager I have ever had. He’s really duro [hard, driven]! He pushes everybody. But if you want to get to the very highest level, it’s good for you.”

– David Silva

Working with Pep was sensational. We played the best football out there both in the Champions League and in Germany, better than all other teams. Guardiola deserves credit for that. Guardiola has moved Bayern forward in all aspects. I have learned a lot from him both as a footballer and as a human being.

But if you buy a player like Frankie de jong for 75million and in a few years time he becomes one of the best midfielders in the world, how much credit do you have to take for his development?

Mourinho bought Pogba for a lot of money and could not do jack with him. Are you saying the money will do the developmental work? We have seen players bought with huge sums and flopped. There is a lot of work needed on Frankie De Jong to help him achieve his potential. I can bet he would have improved at a far faster rate under Guardiola than any other coach.

“Guardiola wants to make football better, to take his team to another level. [ . . . ] He played in the third team back then (when he was given his first-team debut at Barcelona in 1990), and physically he was nothing, but he knew how to help himself with the right movement. And this experience in turning disadvantages into advantages distinguishes him as a coach. To me, he’s one of the best in the world. What is really outstanding about Guardiola is that he doesn’t force his style of football onto his team. He analyses what is best for the team, utilises the special details and through that leads them to the greatest possible success. It’s no coincidence that Spain won the 2010 World Cup with seven of Guardiola’s players, and now Germany with six or seven of his players.”

There are similar quotes made by similar level players about most of the managers they have worked under. This from the players perspective is simply a demonstration of professionalism, courtesy and i guess being media saavy!

The majority of players making those comments won titles before he arrived and after he departed.

Man City IS more Division 2 than Division 1.

On this day 20 years ago, when united were on course to winning the treble, Manchester City where in Division 3.

If Guardiola was that good at development, why doesn't he buy players at 2-3 million price tag or free transfers

Why does he go for 50million players clubs are falling over for, for a club to sell their player for 50mill it means that the player is highly valued and have already achieved substantially during his time at the club

– Paul Pogba

What makes Guardiola mindblowing is that as Pogba is now, if he handles Pogba, you will see drastic improvement in his understanding of the game and play in a short time.

"I believe we've got the best manager in the world here at City -- already in the first two to three weeks I've been so impressed with what we've been doing -- the different systems, the intensity of training, his man management skills -- it's been brilliant for me.

It is the short time required to achieve stellar results. Guardiola does not have the room to work and improve young players to deliver results in short time. However, his impact on all his players is undeniable. The transformation of top quality players like Aguero is mind blowing.

Guardiola is the coach with the most imagination in football, he is a person who, for me, has great imagination because he manages his players’ enjoyment very well. Enjoyment is related to creativity. The creativity of putting [Arjen] Robben and Douglas Costa out wide one game, and further forward in the next, and having the players understand they are doing so for a reason. He changes wingers for forwards, he puts Lahm in midfield or centre-back, the players go out there and play. Guardiola has a clear concept that the players can understand and not see it as an obsession.”

Javi Martinez

"Pep is amazing. He has taught me so much. He makes you watch videos, he has tactics, exercises. He's always studying. He and his team [Domenec Torrent and Carles Planchart] are always watching videos.

"They watch everything: how you train, how you play against your rivals. We always have that (specific) detail on what you can improve. For a player, what Pep can do for you is amazing.'

"We watched more than 200 videos together,' Martinez explains in his first interview with an English newspaper. 'From the start, Pep told me he could see me as a defender and I had to be ready. So we started to exercise every day. A lot of repetitive movements on the training pitch. It could be boring at times – but you need it.

"I'd been injured for three months.

"Almost every day, Pep would come to me and say 'Hey Javi, how are you doing? Come on! Get well soon because we need you' – for me, that approach works. I would go home in a different mood. I would think 'I have to work because I have to help Pep and the team'. I had to be player again."

Mind you Aguero was a beast before Guardiola came to Manchester city

Going by the goal tally below Aguero was a bigger beast under Pellegrini

The Euro 2008 winning squad had more players from Valencia and Villarreal than from Barcelona. Does that also count for something, as in the Valencia manager was a magician? you are right, i thought not too.

Guardiola had been Bayern manager for 11 months (1 season) by the time Germany won the world cup. So you want us to believe that he transformed the Bayern players into World Champions in 11 months right? Never mind that they had made the semis in Euro 2012 and went through the World Cup qualifiers with 9 wins and a draw. wonderful stuff this Guardiola guy na modern day Jesus o. lol

I just hope we can get better poacher that knows how to head the ball

I watched Barnet vs Brentford
There is this Nigeria player there(Brentford) can't remember his name anymore the guy is also good offensively he plays as a wingback.

In 4 years we may lack quality defensively

Odubanjo is his name if I am correct, he was formerly at Hull had an injury and was out for two years he is just this season returned for Brentford fc.

The FA Cup is the most competitive l think in Europe. Which other league in Europe will you see league one teams disgracing first tier league team as AFC Wimbledon did by beating West Ham 4-2.

Of interest is the fact that arguably thier best player and captain of the side is of Nigerian origin.

What I considered is Odubajo's basic skillset, positioning and pattern of play. Those are PERMANENT factors that doesn't change with opposition quality. For example, Iheanacho has a poor touch, that is his basic characteristic. It doesn't matter if he is playing against Madrid or against Seychelles, Iheanacho's poor touch will still be the same.

P.S:
Believe me, Barnet were no pushovers yesterday. They're a highly technical, ultra attacking team. It's no mean feat for a non-league side to hold a Championship team to a 3-3 draw. I'm backing them to cause a major upset in this year's FA cup. League rankings can be deceptive.

I haven't seen any other top league in Europe where teams can come from the bottom and over run first tier league teams.

That is why my view is that the English league system is the most competitive in Europe. I didn't say best, l said most competitive.
