Anambra Govt Targets To Transform ABS Film

Academy As 2nd Batch of Students GraduateThe state government says it will reposition the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS Film Academy to make it one of the bests of its kind in Africa.

Governor Willie Obiano who was represented by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba described the academy as one of the initiatives to positively engage the youths and make them fit in the world of creative economy.

Mr. Nworah appreciated the people that sponsored students in the previous batches of the Academy, calling for more sponsorship from well meaning individuals and organizations as the institution has major objectives geared towards eradicating youth unemploymen.

IGR: Anambra Internal Revenue Service To Automate Tax Assessment System

In a bid to meet Governor Willie Obiano’s monthly target of five billion naira revenue generation, the State Internally Generated Revenue Service says it has concluded plans to explore modern ways of tax drive in the State.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Board of Internally Generated Revenue Service, Dr David Nzekwu stated this while exchanging views with newsmen in Awka.

According to Dr Nzekwu, the Service is working to automate the system and ensure that every taxable adult are brought into the tax net, stressing that they will engage the public by embarking on massive tax education exercise in the coming weeks, as the people that pay tax is still low.

Dr Nzekwu, while pointing out that about two billion naira improvement on tax generation monthly is a clear indication that more Ndi Anambra are voluntarily coming to pay their taxes, revealed that they are adopting the strategy of enumeration of people and assets to create an automated billing system.

He further said that they will increase their conduct of periodic audit of agencies in the State as part of their mandate, calling on the public to reach out to them when in doubt or report suspicious and fraudulent agents to them for clarification, insisting that the proper channel for all tax related issues are their offices.

It would be recalled that during a recent IGR Retreat at the Gold Tulip Hotels, Agulu Lake, stakeholders in revenue generation and collection brainstormed to review and look at ways to improve the drive process.

During the retreat, Governor Obiano stressed that the State is underperforming in terms of revenue drive, and gave stakeholders a five billion naira monthly target.

Hope u guys have seen the latest IGR figures for 3 quarter of 2018 and how Anambra and other Eastern states performed poorly. IMO state even generated more IGR than Enugu and Anambra which was shocking but still not impressive compared to other states like Akwa Ibom, Edo, Kano, Kaduna in fact, Kaduna destroyed the Eastern states. Ogun generated more IGR than the entire SE. This is just too embarrassing. How can Akwa Ibom beat Anambra and Enugu for God's sake?

Imo state has the least IGR in the SE after Ebonyi. Imo state is making 500 million per month, amounting to mere 6billion per annum. Again Imo state is the most indebted state in the SE.

You want to know why Anambra State has low IGR?.

1) LOW INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT - Ogun state has the benefit of gas pipelines that allow industries to locate there and generate power for themselves and so Ogun has over 1000 factories. How many does Anambra have? Onitsha which is less than 20 miles from Shell's gas pipelines at Oguta has made absolutely no effort to get the IOCs to build an extension from it and at least supply Hero Breweries and the Harbor Industrial Layout. Instead the State government is trying to do everything the hard way from Aguleri.

2) LOW SERVICES BASE - Registered companies that pay PAYE are few and far between. MTN's regional headquarters is in Asaba. Glo's regional headquarters is in Enugu. PZ Cussons regional headquarters is in Enugu. All the banks and insurance companies have regional headquarters in Enugu. Why are people running away from Anambra? Just look at the cities? Filthy and full of petty traders. The high street in Enugu you will not see colonies of petty traders. But Anambra? Just look at Onitsha and Awka. Which major corporate would want to locate on Zik Avenue in Awka or Iweka Road in Onitsha and fight through all the wheelbarrow hawkers and other filth?

3) POOR TAX STRATEGY - If you want to achieve 5 billion monthly in Anambra you need to be able to tax FORMAL businesses not from unregistered petty traders that live hand-to-mouth. This is where the Anambra state gets it wrong. 1 Hero Brewery generates far more tax than 10,000 people pushing wheelbarrows through the street selling kunu in recycled bottles. The oyibo are not stupid in clamping down on street trading unlike Anambra state where people are selling in gutters. You need to stop street trading and force businesses into formal building premises and that will reduce their number and allow taxation. Issue tax IDs to those in shops who will make decent profits without the cost cutting street competition. Remove street traders from all major high traffic roads. Let these places be conducive for big business to locate. Then you will see the power of investment. You will see large supermarkets, electronic stores, restaurants, shoe shops and not primitives 1 man business all over the place.

Always posting incoherent rubbish like someone some nuts worn out from his head. Anambra has the largest bank branch networks by far in the SE, and this alone translates to more IGR in Anambra than any other state in the region.

Anambra has the largest well organized industrial estates in the SE, eg, Harbor Industrial estate, Agu-Awka industrial estate, Uru Industrial estate at Nnewi etc.

Anambra has the largest telecommunication mast substations in the SE, and each communication company whether it is mtn, glo or etisalat pays tax depending on the number of substations they have.

Anambra has the highest number of radios and TV stations in the SE. WAZOBIA came to SE and located in Onitsha. Brilla Fm came to SE and chose Onitsha, Julius Beger regional office is in Onitsha, etc, all these are sources of huge revenue.

Is it only Iweka road that is Onitsha? Limca road, Awka road, New market road, Old market road, Zik's avenue, etc, are all in Onitsha and are all lined up with corporate establishments. Even the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Securities & Exchange Commission all have their SE regional offices in Onitsha.

We are not yet talking of the well organized markets across the state. Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi are doing very well in attraction new businesses and industrial complexes. Onitsha and Awka are clean and organized, and that's why any new business coming to the SE ends up in either of these two cities. Okada has been phased out in these cities, even tricycle is well regulated to maintain sanity on the roads. There are still many areas in Enugu with its fair share of street traders, barrow pushers etc.

All Obiano needed to do is to plug the loopholes and he will hit 7billion monthly IGR.

The highlighted is very possible with the heavy presence of corporate and non corporate businesses and industrial estates in Anambra.

Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by ogenyi1: 9:44pm On Feb 02, 2019
From where did Imo state get the IGR? Is it brothels or were prostitutes being taxed each time they meet a client on short time. It is easier to say that states like Rivers and Anambra can get more IGR because they actually have companies and businesses to tax, but you cannot say the same thing about Imo state. Just forget the fake figures Okorocha is bandying around.

As for Imo state the figures are fake and far from being correct. There's absolutely nothing in Imo state that can generate more than 500 mil per month because it is the information supplied by the states to NBS is what they publish. There's a limit you can tax brothels and beer parlors.

1/3rd of imo population are all in Anambra where they ran to as their greener pasture, meanwhile there's no single Anambran anywhere in Imo state.

Imo state is cursed likewise all of you. Okoroawusa used his rotten legs for rituals for political power just to become gov. Lol

Imo people are Anambra slaves, no wonder Okoroawusa used imo allocation to mold Zik, Ekwueme and Ojukwu in imo state.

Hopeless bunch of inferior stark illiterates. cheesy
