I am an Eye doctor, I discovered through clinical experience that most Patients don't really know about some basic things and problems affecting the eyesn and these has led to simple eye problems being seen as complicated and frightening to most patients and they don't really know how to go about it. There are some eye problems that are hereditary, which requires normal routine eye examinations but due to ignorance most patients tend to lose their sight to eye problems that could have been prevented. lolz if the tissue is behind your eyeballs, I bet there's no way you can tell that yourself. I think I have a clue to what you are trying to express in words. the management of any swelling or growth differs depending on its etiology. hence I recommend you see an eye doctor for an examination and possible treatments/ recommendations

what did the doctor call the swelling? what drugs were u given ?you can put up a pic of d swelling if u do not mind. although high levels of lipid (including cholesterol ) can cause an eye lid problem called Xanthelasma. is this what u were told you have? I presume you may be trying to explain chalazion caused by blockage of the oil producing gland (meiobomian gland) in the eye. did I guess right?

the stone hit my nephew in the eye on may last year,,,yesterday bein 14 June 2016,I took him to Eye specialist for Another Examination.the scan showed..(1) heterogeneously thickened Echogenic lens,Matured cataract...(2).A thick linear band was seen extending from the optic disc to the retinal periphery in keeping with a low-lying retinal detachment.............they recommend two surgery...and The parent lack money for the surgery.....Doctor. pls what's your advise on this issue ?

Hello Kannyluv,

How is your nephew's eye now. I really hope he is recuperating and seeing well with the eye now.

I am in a similar situation right now. Someone flung PET bottle and it hit me in the right eye. It happened early this month and most of the symptoms i was experiencing earlier has subsided, but i keep seeing this flashing light at the corner of the eye, my vision is still blurry and my pupils are dilated. I went to General Hospital, Lagos Island, last week thursday and i was given a stroid-based eye drop (to constrict the pupil) and prednisolone or so for the blurry vision.

But i still feel i need some more extensive examination. I would be glad if someone recommend a good hospital in Lagos for an examination. I am considering Eye Foundation, VI, or Metro Eye Clinic, Ikoyi, because they are closest to me. But i am open to better recommendations.

hi there . no doubt you need a more comprehensive eye exam. having flashes is usually a call for concern. in this case could be a retinal tear and if not managed in time, could lead to a retinal detachment and could progress to an irreversible vision loss. best wishes dear

I can't outrightly give a diagnosis without examining you. what you experiencing can be attributed to a number of conditions which an eye exam could give a pointer as to which is. I'll advise you go for an eye exam ASAP

one can't really tell exactly what may be the exact cause of your symptoms unless your eyes are examined. I'll suggest you go to a good eye clinic as soon as you can as sometimes delay in attending to eye issues could cause irreversible vision loss.

Good evening optm,

I went for a B-scan of the eye today and they affirmed that there is no tear in my retina. I even compared the result with google-searched images of retinal detached eyes and mine looks like its okay. I am considering doing another one by tomorrow though, to be doubly sure.

What do you think, sir?

OK do u still experience the flashes? was anything suggested as the likely cause for the flashes?
note : a retinal tear differs from a retinal detachment

Hello Optm,

Thanks for your replies all along. It is much appreciated.

The report says all is fine and the diagrams look normal, compared to the ones i have researched online. I will be taking the result to go see the consulting doctor at General Hospital, CMS, on Monday. Please find a copy of my scanned report attached. I will take it off as soon as you respond.

But i am wondering, doesn't a B-scan detect retinal tear? The flashes havent stopped entirely, but the frequency and area has reduced slightly. I am getting quite relieved now and know and believe i will be entirely fine, by God's grace.

My vision is still quite blurry and i was told that my optic nerve is inflammed (Optical neuritis), so i was given a steroid (Prednisolone) to relax it. I was told to take 4 tablets every morning for 1 week, 3 tablets the following week, 2 and 1 tablets the following weeks.

Let me know what you think, sir.

Thanks!

hi dear it's not out of place to experience light flashes in optic neuritis. my suspicion for a retinal tear in your case was because there was a history of trauma. since you are diagnosed of optic neuritis, one can safely attribute the occurrence of light flashes you are experiencing to it. stick to your docs recommendations . although methylprednisolone is usually preferable as first line drug in treating optic neuritis as it reduces the risk of reoccurrence. i'm hopeful you will be fine .
