Someone stole my Treasury bills certificate from me. It contains details of amount invested, interest and amount. I hope they can't use it to tamper with my account |

Nnamz: My brother, I totally agree with u. When I was working as an accountant in Nigeria, I noticed what you said. Its 100 percent bitter truth. Now I live abroad, I do my things online via diaspora acct. No issue, I was with gtb at first, the acct officer wasnt responding well so I quickly opened another with first bank and everything is working perfectly well. I even call them from here and ask what is available if I want secondary market or fill form and submit for primary mkt. |
That's not true except they change it between last week and now. I have small amount between 100k- 240k severally in different branches around Abuja. Infact that last one was last week. So its either the particular person you asked is Ignorant or s/he is being deceptive for personal gains. Next time you could be mischievous too by asking the staff his/her name. After that, tell him/her you will contact firstcontact@firstbanknigeria.com and quote his/her statement. [/quote Two of their staff which i contacted said it is #1m minimum and i know their names and all their details. Besides they are discouraging me about treasury bill telling me that Mutual fund pays better than treasury bill but i know what i want. If i have the #1m, i will start with it since the more money, the more dividend. |

I am at work right now and do not have the proof around me as evidence to post here for your final conviction. like I said before, let them know you intend to mail firstcontact@firstbanknigeria.com for assistance and you will narrate what the transpired between you and them quoting them. If they are aware and still insist. You have the option of visiting another branch. However, if you in an environment where you can not easily access another branch your best bet would be to send a mail to that address explaining what you want and how those particular persons insisted that if you do not have a particular they call you should do another type of investment against your wish even though you are fully aware that what you have is acceptable by the bank for TB. I believe someone will contact you and resolve the matter. Some first bank staff are fond of doing things like that either because they don't know or because they have other motive. We were in one first bank branch not quite long to collect statement of account for personal use (just to confirm a deposit someone insisted she made but didn't reflect in the account). The statement came in just a page with other 2pages carrying their promotional item.. A page of statement as approved by CBN is now N20. Instantly, we got a debit alert of N120 for the statement not even N60 so we can assume we paid for those 2 useless pages they added without our request. In trying to get explanation from the customer care staff that printed it.. She snapped at us. N100 is now a very small money to overlook but as usual their thoughts that all customers can not do anything or do not know what to do and so do not have any right to be treated right got me irritated. A mail was sent to that address.. Instantly it was addressed and the N100 was refunded. I am saying you should let those people know because the next time we visited we were told that it is usually the whole branch that bear the brunt of any inappropriate actions reported from that branch that we should have tried to resolve within the bank before leaving even when the person that misbehaved was the person that is supposed to be in charge. So I believe firstcontact@firstbanknigeria.com is very responsive and would treat your issues. 1 Like |

I think Gtb are out of their mind oòoooh I request for tb 363 days as told by the account officer instead that debited for 90 days ...i fill form and indicated |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by dcutey: 4:57pm On Feb 01, 2019 |
ahiboilandgas: This is not good from them. When I submitted my mandate of instruction on Monday, the customer care representative that attended to me gave me the phone numbers of my account officers and told me to follow up with them. I called one of them same day and also on Tuesday; he confirmed that it has been treated. I got debited yesterday evening. |

ahiboilandgas:In my opinion, that is wrong and you should report the matter ASAP. Of they couldn't get an offer for 363 days, they should have informed you. |

Gavrelino123: GTB can misbehave sometimes, but overall I think I like thier service. Sorry about not making it this cycle. @bolded, absolutely right. The TB officer at my branch actually said it's best if email instructions come in latest Monday of the bidding week. |

ahiboilandgas: This is certainly unacceptable. Follow up with your account officer or call gtconnect |

LadyBeee: What on Earth will the thief use it for? Probably just know how much you dey invest! Anyway like others have said, u don't to worry. At maturity the money will be paid straight into your account, so unless he has access to your card details/pin your money is completely safe. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 7:09pm On Feb 01, 2019 |
alezzy13:I wrote my ATM card number on the envelope. I mean those numbers in front of ATM card. Not pin. Can he use the number to tamper with my account? |

megafaraday: The same one who receives money requests via email? Have you heard of or seen Ceo/Cfo fraud? Ubiqiti lost $40m from this type of email fraud and you think your account manager cant fall for it if you have authorized something similar before? Same fate befell a Canadian university, over $100m was lost. Better to Take email security serious and authorize everything over phone call only If it's online, or can be accessed online, it can be hacked |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by alezzy13: 7:34pm On Feb 01, 2019 |
LadyBeee: I'm not a banker, but I don't think he can. Your Security (3digit code behind) and pin are needed to access your account. However just to be safe and depending on the funds involved, you may consider asking your bank to block the card. This would means you need to get a new one. As possible aviod giving ur details to third parties. 3 Likes |

obashiakpu:Check out my detailed answer in a recent page: https://www.nairaland.com/878880/treasury-bills-nigeria/679#75118802 obashiakpu:For small amounts, the flat deductions at the start make a bigger difference. You avoid some/all of (those commission fees & 5% VAT) in the Secondary Market. Without doing the math, we suspect Secondary Market will give higher net yield/interest if you wanted tenures close to 91 or 182 days. However, depending on which bank you use, Primary market might give better returns for a duration close to 364 days. If you have to wait 2weeks for the next Primary market, then a same day Secondary market will likely give a better return. For example, one scenario is you lose a Primary market bid and your money sits in limbo (aka current account) for 2weeks till the next auction: > say your bank's bid for 364days was 14.85%, but you missed that > you might have gotten 14.85% in Primary, but the next day it could be sold for 14.5% in Secondary > if you wait for the next primary auction, even if you get 14.85% again, your money has not earned (14.85%p.a. * (2weeks / 52weeks.per.year)) = 0.57%p.a. in that time > this is same as you accepting a Secondary market rate of (14.85 - 0.57) = 14.28% the day after the primary auction you missed > you would have earned more accepting 14.5%, even 14.3% in the Secondary market Note: our assumption above is your N200k did not earn anything for the 2weeks before the next primary market auction. The calculations become more favorable for Primary market if you had your money earning a high rate during the 2week wait; e.g. in a top savings account, even better if you have a reliable Money Market Fund you have held for the minimum holding period and can push money in/out quickly and at no cost/charge. In summary, if a long wait is involved till the next auction and/or your bank has some deductions that apply to primary market only (not secondary), most scenarios for N200k likely have Secondary market earning you higher, and with less stress. 4 Likes |
