They didn't kill it because it is a dog, they killed it because they thought it's a shape-shifting human.

In this era of camera phones, no one ever captures footage of people turning to animals or back to humans. Pretty sure you have never seen it happen, but you'd be all to eager to kill people and animals based on hearsay.

Yes I'm different from the average Nigerian, I ask questions and don't run along with bloodthirsty mobs. I have my flaws, but being eager to kill or justify killing isn't one of them.
