Wow, a month!!! Wish i can just birth in US and include the baby in my PR later but not ready for sponsorship route.

Thanks so much for the response.

Though I landed somewhere else, I was referred to one in far less than a month because I was over 30 weeks. You dont have to be worried. I remember I went to a walk in clinic just in case and I called a healthline that link patients with doctors. When I called the healthline I mentioned that I was over 30 weeks and within a few days I had a doctor.

Hello Everyone, seriously preparing for my landing. Cannot wait to share my landing gist. Can anyone who has bought winter gears from "House of Tej"- Tejuosho Market, give an idea of the cost implication, so we don't get bamboozled when we reach there?

Also, I keep hearing conflicting stories about getting a G license in Ontario. Do i need to get the FRSC letter or does my license suffice or do I need an international one in addition?

Hi, I hope you find this links helpful

Check @einsteino comment for how to select winter jacket even at yaba before leaving

Please I need help oh. Waiting for our passport to land from Ghana as I already got the dispatch mail.
So in the mean time, I was thinking of bringing in my mother in law along with us. I need help on the procedure from those who have done it. Our plan is to leave around November and we will love to go with her. Thanks as you respond my people.

Accountants and finance professionals, please ensure you learn advanced excel before coming in. I mean pivot tables, recording macros, VBA, vlookup, sumifs etc. It will help you in your job hunt. You can spice it up by learning powerpoint too as you can be called to do presentations at short notice. You can also visit indeed.ca to have an idea of the requirements for the career you want to pursue.

Also consider financial analyst role as you can never get it wrong with this role. If you type in financial analyst role in GTA in indeed, you will see that job berekete here. The question is Do you have the skills? All you need is experience in advanced excel where you use the tools to perform variance analysis (actual vs budgeted) with pivot charts, budgeting, monthend activities and presentation skills. You may also need experience in an ERP like SAP, ORACLE, JEDWARDS and co. I tell you they are ready to waive that Canadian experience if you have the skills. I have seen it happen for people.

There are so many free tutorials on excel and powerpoint on youtube and these videos come with materials you can practice with. udemy.com also has very cheap training on financial analysis. Some banks in Naija call this role performance management. We have performed most of these roles but with different titles/names.

Some keywords you can add to your resume are balanced scorecards, flash reports (just before month end variance analysis) and dashboard (after month end variance analysis) Monthly business review (MBR) process improvement and automation (excel helps you do both)etc.

Prepare very well before coming here and you will not waste time in the labour market.

Ok bye.

in addition to my earlier post on excel, before you claim you know it make sure you can defend it as some companies can give you online excel test (google kenexa prove it excel test. the video is also on youtube, indeed also has online excel test) or they can give you raw data to use particular tool(s) in excel to analyse.

Learn it, work with examples and be confident about it. meanwhile it is not rocket science just learn the ribbon to click to perform a particular task like record macro, create pivot table etc or the command with the correct syntax to type to perform a particular task like vlookup, sumif, iferror etc.

good luck

How easy will it for someone who has been working as a tax accountant to migrate to a finance role? I have been working in tax but I will like to go into core accounting/finance..

I'm aware of the need for a CPA designation. Then, I want to know if there's a difference between CPA.CA, CPA.CMA and CPA.CGA..Is any of them preferred by employers?

Thanks

The above link will answer the question on difference. I know if you are converting from ACCA to CPA, your added designation to CPA is CGA (General Accounting)while if you are converting from CIMA your added designation to CPA is CMA (Management Accounting) For CA, i think it is for those that are in public accounting.

Then for changing path, it is difficult unless with internal reference. The best is to get in with the skills you have (foot in the door) and then change within the company. They normally recruit based on experience and not what you want unfortunately. But you can give it a try. If you can defend the finance skills in your resume then good. Meanwhile Tax is also a good one over here.

The career path for finance analyst is attractive. From finance analyst to senior finance analyst to finance manager to controller/chief financial officer to CEO.. Most CFOs end up being CEOs because they work closely with CEOs and have understood the challenges of the role. So it really makes sense changing your path. And while at this you try and get a Canadian based masters degree.

My posting is not cordinated because i am multitasking presently.

Good day everyone.

Please those in Calgary / with knowledge of Calgary.

The North East has a bad reputation, but I believe there are some neighborhoods there that are relatively safe, especially within context of raising children. Please can we share experiences of such neighborhoods?

Abi North East na total no-go area?

Every neighbourhood has its own issues but I think the NE is not as bad as it is been painted. If you go about your daily activities and you don't go beyond your boundaries, you are fine. I lived in the dreaded Forest Lawn SE for a few years and never experienced anything negative.

Hi @czaratwork, thanks for the tips for us accounting. I have a Bsc in accounting from a school here in Nigeria and an Msc in oil and gas accounting from the UK, I plan to get a CPA after moving to Canada (currently post AOR). My question is will I be able to claim exemption with my Msc or my Bsc will be more recognised?

Pls I want to enquire if there's any provision like this for Canada before I will fritter away my little savings. I would appreciate every response. If there is, does it require the usual ielt exam like applicants for permanent residence?
