Second, Lagos is urban, you can't compare it with the whole of Kenya and masturbate over it. Urban areas generate more GDP than rural areas. Nairobi alone has a GDP of over $40 billion with only 4 million people. Nairobi Metro has a GDP of about $55 billion with only 6 million people. How does it compare with Lagos?

1. The Gap between Nigeria and Kenya has been reducing in the past 5 years. You're wrong on that.

2. The Gap between Tanzania and Kenya wasn't that big in 2004 - less than $2 billion. A high growth on Tanzania's side could easily see them beat Kenya within less than 5 years. They've grown faster than Kenya since then and the gap has increased from less than $2 billion to almost $40 billion currently.

3. The IMF has noticed a weakness in their compilation method. You're not going to push the IMF observations aside just because you want to please some Tanzanian sycophant here.

Because they were growing so fast 10pct Vs your 4.7pct (2017, the year they briefly overtook Kenya). Just because you are from a low base doesn't mean you can't catch up, but you have to grow astronomically fast. China's growth for the past 1-2 decades has been double/triple that of US but it's yet to catch up because it was coming from a low base. If it was Germany or Japan or UK/France growing that fast, they would have overtaken the United States.
