Yes this is an achievement. Since i was born Opobo LGA has only been accessible by boat even when it was obvious that a road could be created to ease life for the people of Opobo Kingdom. Successive governments have made promises but all to no avail. Governor Wike took over and delivered that promise. Today, the people of this LGA can easily travel by land to their LGA and communities, there is ease of doing business, no more boat mishaps. Please do not let sentiments becloud your sense of reasoning.

Well i can assure u that buhari will be lucky to even get 25% of the total votes cast in rivers state. Nd i mean extremely lucky. D point is Dakuku Peterside was a commisioner of works for 8yrs, a house of assembly member for 8yrs, a house of reps member for 4yrs, yet he didnt complete or lobby for d completion of the road to his place. D only candidate in APC dat can challenge wike in rivers state is Abe, even ameachi knows dat. Lastly like i said earlier buhari will be extremely luck to get 25% in rivers.

Ibani and Igbo.

Igbo was King Jaja's native language as an indigene of Amaigbo, Imo State before he was captured as a slave. Ibani is the language spoken in Bonny, which Jaja picked up growing up as a slave in the Anna Pepple House before he got his freedom. He had a personality clash with Oko Jumbo, and both led the 2 factions of the Pepple House before Jaja decided to resettle in present day Opobo with his own faction.

So technically speaking, the Opobo people are Igbos by origin and many of my friends from there are all Igbo speakers, even though there is now a conscious attempt to deny their Igbo ancestry.

Definitely the road was not built by one person. However most accolades are not given to those what started the Empire but those who completed the rise of the Empire. Nwaike did not only contribute to the construction of the road, he rode on the road to Opu Obu (Opobo).

I am from OPobo, This project has spanned a period of 20 years ... even with the fan far you still cant drive into opobo during the raining season. Odili, Amaechi, Wike all contributed. But what is left is so huge that i think about 30% of work is required. For me it is only politics playing out.


What i cant say know is if Wike will even complete the project. No governor works after 2nd term.
My fears, Now that every one is saying he has completed the road because he drove into opobo during dry season, i hope they will be no complains if the gov. decides to stop further works on the road becuase be drove to opobo himself

Wao, this is highly Commendable. I was serving(NYSC) in Opobo when Wike came to do the Flag off. One statement I made then was, 'I hope it would not be abandoned'. I'm really happy for the people of Opobo. Movement to and fro then was a thug of war. You either use bike from Borí to Òpóbo Town then(1hr plus) at the price range from #1000 or you either go to Ikot Abassi in Akwa Ibom state then use speed boat from there to Opobo. I can not forget the experience in a hurry. Thank God for Preservation of life.

Hope to visit the town someday, now that there's good road.

These are the things that bring tears to my eyes. How can a people that sit on billions and billions of dollars worth of oil and gas reserves just be getting an accessroad sixty years after independence.... while cities, empires and vast wealth have been built on its back in other climes far flung.

If we thought this evil was a colonial period dark melodrama, how do we explain fellow citizens doing this to their brothers in contemporary times and justifying it to this day via this terrible structure we find ourselves in. How come a whole new capital city, Abuja was built complete with wide tree lined boulevards and gleaming towers from scratch amid the settlements, farms and hillsides of mid Nigeria and an ancient town, kingdom and oil basket of Opobo is just getting a land connection.

We ought to be terribly ashamed of ourselves as Nigerians. Our patent lack of reasoning, empathy and humanity will not allow the grace others nations who uphold equity and justice enjoy in moving forward.

We must as a matter of urgency restructure this country.

Thank you for answering him the way you have. Without wanting to sound too knowing on all things ASA-NDOKI-OPOBO, we will always remain IGBOS.
I know for a fact that from 1970 onwards, the Rivers State Government did try and fail numerous times, with programmes to end the speaking of Igbo in Opobo axis.
