The gap is obvious because we were deprived of many things under Apartheid. We have a lot of catching up to do & considering where we come from (our history), we've done well for ourselves. well other african may have a good start, but South Africa had settled dutch and british emigrants which doesn't happen in many african state. .This meant it wasnt looked down upon and discriminated against by the west as much as the other african countries were. there was good inter trade balance that all other african country doesn't enjoy.

South Africa had also had a more settled and stable government than any other African nation, things could have gone out of hand in 1991-92 but due to Mandela, nothing of that sort happened. He wanted a inclusive society of both europeans and native africans, he understood thats the only way to ensure stability and growth, by not going for revenge, he ended up ensuring that his country becomes a model for others. The Rainbow Nation hence was born
