Stanbic IBTC equity fund did over 800% in 20 years, that is an average of over 40% per year. This is a wonderful result. The only tragedy is by my calculations if you had left that same amount in dollars without even investing you would have been richer today. This really gave me perspective. A very sad one. You should also note that the all share index did over 400% in that same period. A good result too. 1 Like |

Bulls seen on the floor of the NSE. They are seriously bullying most banking stocks with GTB and Zenith Bank leading the charge. Bonanza might never happen. If you are in, sit tight and fasten your sit bet. |

By CardinalStone Research, Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc (SEPLAT) 9M’18 results – Turnover unsurprisingly surged to $568.0 million (+103.9% YoY), in line with our estimate of $579.1 million (-2.0% deviation). The remarkable YoY growth in the nine-month period was majorly driven by higher crude prices and increased production. Contrasting with an after-tax loss of $5.3 million in 9M’17, the firm made an after-tax profit of $91.5 million—beating our estimate of $82.4 million (+9.9% deviation). Other highlights: • SEPLAT’s revenue rose 53.5% YoY and 39.0% QoQ to $225.3 million in Q3’18, reflecting improved oil production during the quarter (average oil production- Q3’18: 28.9 Kbopd, Q2’18: 23.3 kbopd). The two-week downtime at the Trans Forcados Pipeline (TFP) in Q2’18 created a lower base for QoQ turnover comparison. The rally in Brent prices up to four-year high of $85.71/bbl in Q3’18 also supported top line growth (average Brent price- Q3’18: $76.02/bbl, Q2’18: $74.91/bbl). In light of the aforementioned, revenue from oil advanced by 57.8% QoQ to $183.6 million—accounting for 81.5% of total revenue in Q3’18. • Due to the rainy season, natural gas production moderated to 119 MMscfd in Q3’18 (Q2’18: 152 MMscfd)—the lowest in the last four quarters—as some off-takers resorted to fuller hydroelectric dams for power generation during the quarter. Following the QoQ drop in natural gas production, sales from the gas segment declined by 8.9% QoQ to $41.7 million. • SEPLAT’s profitability margins improved in Q3’18. Gross margin came in stronger at 58.3% (Q2’18: 50.3%, Q3’17: 48.3%) as cost of sales (+16.4% QoQ) rose at a much slower pace than top line (+39.0% QoQ). The growth in cost of sales was driven by the rise in crude handling charges (+26.0% QoQ), royalties (+10.6% QoQ) and depreciation (+4.7% QoQ), which collectively move in tandem with crude production. • Though the firm was twice as operationally efficient as it was in Q2’18 (operating expenses/sales ratio- Q3’18: 8.2%, Q2’18: 16.0%), Q3’18 operating margin improved marginally to 46.9% (Q2’18: 46.0%). Operating margin was impacted by overlift revaluation losses of about $7.3 million, contrasting with underlift revaluation gains of $19.2 million in the preceding quarter. • The revenue growth recorded in Q3’18 sieved through the income statement to boost earnings for shareholders, as after-tax earnings advanced by 92.6% YoY and 53.3% QoQ to $42.9 million. • Given the striking performance in the nine-month period, the Board has declared an interim dividend of $0.05 (N15.33) per share, translating to a dividend yield of 2.4% on the last close share price. Analyst take: SEPLAT’s Q3’18 performance was quite impressive as the firm’s major profitability drivers (crude production and crude prices) edged higher during the quarter. We anticipate similar stellar performance in the next quarter as the TFP is expected to remain functional while Brent continues to trade within the band of $70-80/bbl in the interim. Furthermore, we expect sales of natural gas to inch up in Q4’18 when the dry season kicks in and major off-takers fall back to gas thermal plants for power generation. More so, the firm remains committed to diversifying the risk of over-reliance on the TFP as the Amukpe-Escravos Pipeline (AEP) is expected to come online in Q4’18. Taken together, SEPLAT looks set to return value to its shareholders in FY’18, evinced by 9M’18 earnings per share (EPS) of $0.16 contrasting with a loss per share of $0.01 in FY’17. Our target price on the counter remains unchanged at N977.57 (BUY). GTay: 1 Like |

Today is obviously for the FUGAZ. The tier banks are trying to ride the wave but from trading activities, it is definitely not their day. So much expectations from Transcorp, but it doesn't seem to be ready to fly. Next week will open a new vista |

GonFreecss1: @ bolded, I am not sure that's true. Parallel market rates at 1999 were about 88 NGN in 1999 (Official market rate was 22 naira but it was a racket, hardly anybody got at that price). So you wouldn't be richer than investing in the Stanbic IBTC equity fund. |
