experimental test set up of S band magnetically insulated line oscillator (MILO). The MILO is a cross field device that generates gigawatts level of HPM. The device is compact because it generates the magnetic field by itself. Good for direct energy weapons of the HPM type. In the experimental lab setup with the compact S band MILO with 2 choke, 3 SWS cavities and one coupling cavity , RF output power of 4 MW at a frequency of 3.26GHz for the beam voltage of 485 KV and the current of 48.4 KA was obtained. Now DRDO needs to work on the developmental cycle and scale it up to the desired performance and output levels step by step over a period of time. It will be a long journey though. Anyways the significance of MILO lies in its ability to deliver highest energy per mass per pulse compared to other HPM source devices/technologies. And importantly MILO allows for smallest possible dimensions for a HPM system along with the relevant support systems , light and compact enough to make it mobile ie truck / trailer / track mounted for battlefield operations. According to unclassified reports the Americans tested mobile MILO devices with RF energy levels well over 1KJ per pulse ( 2-3 GW for .5-1us ). 1 Like

This is General Krishnaswamy Sundarji, PVSM the greatest strategist till date in Ind.... In the 80s he concocted an operation which would have removed the itch on the western permanently , he managed to stage one of the largest military excercise after WW2 which infact was a cover up for an alleged invasion plans comprising upto 1 million troops at a go. Unfortunately Americans butted in after cia penetration of the moronic ind.... politicians at the last moment. The general was able to keep the actual plans hidden until the last moment but failed when the politician needed to be bought into the loop for the final orders. The idea was to provoke the opposite side into contact with own forces so that it could serve as an excuse to attack the nuclear sites and disintegrate the said country. Now all is lost unfortunately The exercise was so huge , NATO classified it as the biggest wargames ever since WW2. 2 Likes

lionel4power: Yes , and good thing is now the developers have enough experience to skip the prototype stage and go directly for development of production stage aircrafts ie there will be no prototypes of LCA mk2 , the first aircraft itself will be production standard LCA mk2 (which will be compliant with the IAF ASQRs) Incidentally carnards for LCA mk1 was rejected becz of the complexities involved and some disadvantages which could not be minimised then due to lack of experience on the part of design team. Now it has been resurrected becz the design team can bank on its 2 decades experience and resultant expertise. 1 Like |

During the recent high altitude cold weather trials (4.5 km) at Leh, LUH was cold-soaked for 48 hours before the successful engine restart. It has passed the high altitude cold weather trials successfully. The chopper will now head for high altitude hot weather trials in Leh during July/Aug. 3 Likes

OFB's new unnamed CQB Carbine 5.56x45 mm NATO ammunition. Design borrows from the INSAS 1C design, modifications like a machined receiver over the INSAS stamped and riveted body, a single Picatinny rail to take an assortment of weapon sights and accessories.

One occasionally comes across questions here about South Africa's nuclear program. The link below is one of the more comprehensive open sources out there on the program. Personally, far more interesting than the weapons themselves, were the various delivery systems. From the Raptor glide system - acquired by Pakistan, Algeria and others – to the 1 500km RSA-3 rocket which precipitated the US shutting down our Space program as a condition to us joining the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). 1st pic DRDO pulse power system and coaxial vircator 2nd pic Explosive driven HPM system for a EMP bomb ( posted as a example ) If one compares the 2 , both have same building blocks but with differences in the types of sub systems used. So if DRDO has managed to develop the relevant sub systems with minimal SWaP form factor then one can be sure that we have a EMP bomb possibly little overweight at that in the first or second or ....... attempt. And if so hopefully by now they would have optimised
