What I did was buy the Onion/chicken flavor. For the ones that went in my luggage, I removed them from their packets and put them in ziploc bags. I then wrapped them well with newspaper and cellotape. The ones in cargo went with their packs. I didn't declare it though. If I remember correctly, it was only my dried fish and dried scent leaves I declared on the card. Indomie is not chicken or meat product per se. My bags were not searched in Nigeria or Canada either, so I can't say if they would have had a problem with it.

I did list the food items. But there aren't a lot of options. I think they ask for meat, dairy products, fish, vegetables. I had just fish and vegetable products among the options listed, so there wasn't a lot to declare.
For the Catholic school registration, it is a pretty straightforward process if your child is a baptized Catholic or if either parent is. I am a baptized Catholic so all i did was complete the registration with my baptismal card and other documentation. I think there is another process that non-Catholic families have to go through. Not sure what it is. I don't know about the wait time though. What I know is that you should do it as soon as soon as you get your place. My son isn't four yet, so we registered him for the coming school year which starts in September. He will 4 by then.
Before you decide on a school though, I think you will need a permanent address cos schools are zoned and your child will only be accepted if you live in a location within the school's catchment area. That's why we waited to have our lease agreement before settling on the school. They will check your address and see. If you decide to use a temporary address, you may end up getting a place that falls outside the school's catchment and would have to start applying for approval to keep your child in that school or register him/her somewhere else. All these info I got from speaking with the school principal and reading from the website of the Catholic school board in my region..

Waina maker is commercially sold as a "vitumbua maker", It is a non stick electrical appliance use to fry vitumbua also known as waina or masa in the Northern part of Nigeria.

"Waina" or "Masa" is a popular delicacy amongst the Hausas. The dish is basically made from a slightly fermented rice meal and it is similar to a pan fried rice cake which is paired with pumpkin or groundnut soup. And of course it is highly nutritious.

I intend to land (family of 3; considering Calgary) with my family in May and i intend having a career change once I get to Canada. I intend to go into Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). I am presently doing my research on the career path and what certifications I need to do. However, I just wanted to know if there is anyone in the house in this area and if anyone knows the financial prospects of towing this path.

I am into customer service here in Nigeria and I believe OHS is a better career path for me.

Union Bank didn't agree to sell on the one-way ticket. I used the BDC mallams all through. The winter jackets have been serving us well. On top several other layers of clothing though. I haven't witnessed the -42° weather again sha, lowest has been -25° so far since we came. Just buy the very thick ones and enough thick sweaters and also get your winter boots too if you are coming anytime soon. I almost slipped the day I decided to do James Bond and wear my sneakers out in very slippery snow. I don reach ground finish.

Contact the airline and ask if they can modify your ticket. You may charged extra. It happened to me once with Airfrance.

Check out turbotax or H&R block online. You could also wait till you come in March and use the free tax filing for immigrants services available.
