Election Postponement: Should INEC Now Accept Zamfara APC Primaries List? by kahal29: 8:06am On Feb 16, 2019
Since INEC can fail to follow it's own timetable strictly by shifting today's presidential election, what moral justification does it still have to punish those who also failed to follow the same timetable guidelines.

Recall that earlier before now INEC had insisted that there was no going back on its timelines for the conduct of 2019 general elections. According to INEC they were going to follow the timetable as released religiously beginning with the party primariy elections.

Zamfara State APC as we were told by INEC in the build up to the 2019 election failed to conduct their party primaries within the period that was prescribed and set by INEC hence the commission came hard on them by disqualifying the party from fielding candidates in the general elections.

Now given the recent development of election postponement by INEC citing logistics reasons, what moral justification does the commission still have have to disqualify Zamfara APC from fielding candidates when the commission in this instance have also failed to operate within prescription of their own timetable?

Finally, why should Nigerians accept their logistic reasons when they as a commission failed to see reasons with Zamfara APC chapter when they also failed as argued by INEC to adhere to the same timetable?

What do you think?

It is a different thing now. Is failure of Zamfara primary election due to thuggery or logistics?

Does it really matter? Whether Jonah swallowed the fish or the fish swallowed Jonah the key point is that there was a swallow. Hence, Reason or No reason, what matters is that both INEC and APC Zamfara State failed to follow the 2019 general elections timetable.

No they are not past tense as you say because all the activities lined up for the conduct of the 2019 general elections are all included in the timetable as released by INEC.

Your argument is idealistic but not realistic. If INEC should follow your logic, election process will become worse. INEC had already set a good precedence capable of instilling internal discipline within our major political parties.

On the other way round what of the damage and cost INEC have caused Nigerians who traveled far and near to vote and also the damage they will do to those who already have plans and programmes fixed for the new dates ie Feb 23 and March 9. Is that one too idealistic?

No candidate because the Zamfara APC failed to abide by the INEC time table..... Now INEC have also failed to abide by its own timetable what happens to them?

I guess that is one of the reasons why INEC postponed this election They are giving lame excuses up and down It is a shame that election was canceled on in less than 24hours to the polls.
