It really easy - anybody without valid VISA or Permit - should not be there. That may start by first making sure every South Africa is armed with Identification Card. In kenya we have always had a national ID card from 18yrs. Now we are moving it to ID (Social or Huduma) card for every Kenya - including children - together with biometrics.

You cannot talk about foreigners without a robust biometrically enabled national Identification system linked to everything - birth certificate - school certificates - name it.

In kenya is pretty impossible to operate without National ID - because everywhere you'll be asked for one - entering buildings - you need to show you ID card.

But Nigerians and other illegal immigrants turn into noctural animals - just appearing at night - in clubs and sleeping at day or working with lights turn off.

Then you send the police and immigration to stop people randomly and ask for ID cards - and voila foreigners will disappear.

Why not? It's a win-win. Foreign investors bring their money - Gov gives them free land. For example Gov just bought 15,000 acres of land in Athi River that belong Portland Cement (disused quary). Investors (foreign or local) will get that land. They will build houses to be sold to kenya cheaply at 1-3M. Investors get back their money through mortgage arrangments - and Kenyans own those houses. Kenyans are getting 1.5% of their salary deducted monthly...to finance the mortagages. Gov is subsidizing the builders by removing the land and infrastructure cost.

Until the actual implementation fails to go as planned and suddenly we have foreign landlords all over the city and country.

I don't see that being a bad thing. That is FDI. They will only those houses under leasehold.

Let the govt use the money to industrialize! Building cheap houses for Kenyans is BS! Until when? The govt wants to create societal laziness. Make the people better salaried and they will build their own houses to their own taste and style. What will happen is that as soon as they are built Kenyans will start overlooking them, or buying and selling them off to stop 'looking ordinary', or completely abandon them. Mass social welfare is a failure and it will fail the economy - yes the project is simply mass social welfare.

We can be dumb trust me. Not always but sometimes. We are getting into the trap that Americans under the Dems found themselves - which is the mess Trump is trying to fix now. The govt should not be in the business of 'doing things' for its citizens. Just make the economy and environment work and the people will do as they please. People just need well paying jobs and good infrastructure and an economy that is booming. Not cheap welfare houses.

And to just think that NIIMS (National Integrated Identity Management System) is being launched in Nyandarua county before it reaches each part of Kenya.We will soon have a superior database for all Kenyans and foreigners!
