Akwa Ibom Elders Reject Plans To Remove Resident Electoral Commissioner by TonyeBarcanista(m): 1:28pm On Feb 18, 2019 |
AKWA IBOM ELDERS FORUM: INEC MUST BE ALLOWED TO CONDUCT FREE AND CREDIBLE ELECTIONS IN AKWA IBOM STATE …DECRIES PLANS TO REMOVE RESIDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSIONER, MIKE IGINI Culled from Vanguard Newspaper, Monday, February 4, 2019 (page39) We have been reliably informed that there are plans to remove the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Mike Igini and replace him with another Commissioner whose brief would be to help the APC rig the elections in the State. It is widely acknowledged that the current Commissioner is a man of integrity, of honesty and is dedicated to conducting a free, transparent and credible election in the State. The APC is fully aware of the fact that they don’t stand electoral chance in Akwa Ibom State, the State being decidedly PDP. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Igini, an a academic of no mean repute, a man whose reputation for conducting free and fair elections everywhere he has been the REC, has told the world that he will conduct a free and credible election in Akwa Ibom State and that there will be no undue influence from any quarter to tilt the outcome of the elections in favour of any party. He has addressed a cross- section of the political stakeholders in the State and the security agencies on his avowed determination to ensure the transparency of the process. The decision of this upright electoral umpire must have rankled the APC who in their determined efforts to rig the elections, are making plans to replace him with another who will do their biddings. We wish to use this opportunity to state categorically that we will resist any plans by the APC led Federal Government to subvert the will of the people of this State which as it stands is expressly invested in the PDP. The APC has boasted that they will deploy violence and the Federal might to impose their candidate as the governor of this state against the wishes of the people. They have variously boasted that they have pocketed INEC and that when the election approaches, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Igini will be replaced. They have amassed an armada of thugs whom they have sown police and military uniforms for, to cause mayhem during the election to justify the postponement of the elections in the State or in some polling units in some parts of the State; they have boasted that this election will be a “do or die battle”. They have been employing military style metaphors to describe what they wish to do on election days-February 16 and March 2nd respectively. We wish to state here that as Elders and major Stakeholders in this State, we stand ready to defend the right of our people to choose the leaders of their choice, leaders whom they trust to ensure peace, security, development. They also want to elect leaders who would have the collective interest of the people over the narrow interest of those who have a deep sense of entitlement to power, influence and wealth. The key element of any democratic process is the conduct of credible elections where the will of the people will be expressed and where their votes must count. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Mr. Mike Igini is determined to do just that, and he must be allowed to perform this patriotic assignment. The world is watching and Nigerians in particular are watching. Signed: Senators Anietie Okon, Emmanuel Ibokessiien, Effiong Bob, Helen Esuene, Etang Umoyo, Chief (Dr.) Emmanuel Ukpong, Rt. Hon. Nduese Essien, Dr. (Barrister) Emmanuel Umanah, Professor Emmanuel Onwuduotkit, Hon. Ekpeyong Eyinna, Rt. Hon. Peter Linus, Chief Emmanuel Ibiok, Hon. Felicia Bassey, Dr. (Barrister) Effiong Osung |

Nigerians have looked back this past 4 years and what we have seen is only total darkness and misery. Life has been so miserable within just 4 years of only one man Buhari, is it the herdsmen killings, bokoharam killings, disunity, nepotism, python dance on armless protesters, Shitte Muslims killings, Poverty capital of the world, what have we not seen within just 4 years of this man Buhari, what??. Anyone thinking of voting Buhari again may all these calamity listed above follow your immediate family from generation to generation, non shall escape it till eternity. Amen 12 Likes 1 Share |

The lying tonyebarcanista again. Lol Nigeria situation could be likened to a market woman who sells 20 number of corns at a rate of 110 naira per each daily. Years later, the market leaders eventually reduced and controlled the price at 50 naira. The market woman is still expected to sell same 20 number of corns but nothing higher than this. Tell me if the woman's income would increase or decrease? However, if the woman had saved enough when the corn was still priced at 110 naira, she wouldn't be affected by the fall in sales price, pending the time sale price would increase once again. That's the situation of Nigeria today. When crude oil which is our main source of foreign revenue was selling at $110 per barrel for more than 5 years under Jonathan, Jonathan didn't save but looted us dry instead. We're suffering from this effect today now that crude oil has been selling at a poverty rate of $50 per barrel for the past 4 years under Buhari yet Buhari administration has had so many projects undertaken by him despite earning 60% less. If only people knew what other oil countries such as Angola and Venezuela are passing through during this global crude oil price recess, they would thank God Buhari came in rather than Jonathan who looted us dry despite oil boom when crude oil was selling at $110 per barrel for five years unlike the paltry $50 it has been selling under APC. If the looting Jonathan couldn't save during the time of plenty and was already borrowing, how would he have carried on during this crude oil price recess? Despite Buhari administration earning 60% less yet he's come up with plenty projects such as Our railways at itakpewarri, Lagos-ibadan, Lagos-Abeokuta, kaduna-abuja etc, The production of low cost fertilizers, Zik maoseleum Baro inland port, Kaduna inland dry port, Port Harcourt airline terminal, Abuja airline terminal, Rice mills, Foreign reserve increase from $26b to $43b, Construction of our express highways such as enuguonitsha, Lagos-ibadan etc. Social policy schemes such as tradermoni, npower etc Payment of all pensions of airline staffs that were forced to retire after the shambolic privatisation by Atiku. PDP didn't pay them in the last 16 years. And most especially, stabilizing us through this recession which happened because jonathan failed to save despite earning 60% more than Buhari. Note that there's been a global fall in the price of crude oil from $110 per barrel in 5 years under Jonathan to a paltry $50 per barrel under Buhari administration yet Buhari was able to keep us afloat while having many projects to his name thereby surprising Ngozi Iweala and Charles Soludo who predicted recession because jonathan looted and failed to save during the time of plentiful. Mike Ngini is a no nonsense man. One of the very best INEC can boast of. Why would anybody contemplate removing him from managing affairs in such a volatile state? APC obviously want someone pliable in that state. 4 Likes 1 Share |
