Ashaka Cement Company, has unveiled plans to inaugurate its N11 billion 16-megawatt power plant.

The firm, a subsidiary of Lafarge Africa, said the power plant project started in 2017 would improve and solve the country’s energy problem.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Rabiu Abdullah Umar, unveiled during the 2018 award ceremony for its distributors.

He said the power plant, would not only release additional megawatts to the national grid, but also create employment opportunities, boost operational efficiency and tackle the high energy cost of the largest industry in Nigeria’s northeast.

“Last year, we started our power plant, which is an N11billion project, and we will inaugurate the project soon, signalling the end to the use of generators for our operations.

“So, we are helping to remove ourselves from the demand for energy, and providing our own solution, which means a minimum of 16 megawatts of electricity, will now become available to the public grid for the people in the region to enjoy from.

The power plant is our biggest plan aimed at reducing our costs,” he added.

The power plant, infrastructure, and cement capacity are all testament to this commitment to the development of Nigeria.

We are celebrating a good year and look forward to even better collaboration in 2019.”

Also speaking, the Country Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa, Michel Puchercos, expressed appreciation to all the distributors for their remarkable performance in keeping the Lafarge range of products among the top brands in the market.

“For your commitment to results through the years and in 2018 in particular, Lafarge Africa says a big thank you, and we look forward to a more fruitful year in 2019.

“This year, we are set to change the way we do business with our customers by empowering our customers to become partners.’

Ok... Guys... Let's do simple mathematics... If for a private firm.. a 16mw power plant costs #11b and it is projected that Nigeria needs over 50,000mw in order 2 have stable electricity... Nigeria currently generates 7,500mw...
So in short... Nigeria still needs 2 generate over 42,000 mw in order 2 have stable electricity
Now d questions
1)In a simply explained mathematical solution... Calculate how much Nigeria needs 2 invest in d power sector in order to have stable electricity supply (consider d fact that it's a government project.. Therefore tends to cost more than when carried out by a private firm)

cool

The good policies of this administration are creating good grounds for investors.

My only problem is that, you'll generate electricity, send it to national grid before the locals can use it. 16 MW of power can take care of Gombe.

The power plant project started in 2017 and already completed but if it is government, it's completion will be in "Future continuous tense"!

One of conundrums that has always ravished my mind is how a country like Nigeria, with all the enormous resources at our disposal can't boast of steady power supply, not even 24/7, but at least steady.

The general cost of doing business in this country without power is so damn high, you'd feel pity for manufacturers and entrepreneurs. The effects can not make a thriving economy, we have potentials but until this power issue is fixed, It can't be achieved.

If 11 billion naira can build a power plant of about 16 megawatts.....

Why was abacha's loot, school feeding money, recovered loots, trader money etc according to Buhari, not channelled to a similar project of power plant building and power generation?

Thieves !!!

they are pulling out from the grid, meaning you have more electricity to use. PHCN looses a paying customer.

The problem isn't getting the electricity steady.
Are we ready to pay for electricity?are we ready to cough out like 30k per month for electricity bills?

Luxury isn't cheap and before u quote me,check what developed countries pay for electricity.

Even with prepaid meter, it's still gonna be costly.

Check home much card u use and recharge, subscribe in a month..then multiply it and check how much a prepaid will eventually cost u.

It is no brainer that the Federal government will be paying them for providing/generating the Power since they supply to national grid. They serve as Gencos, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) operated by the Federal government always work hand in hand with Generating Companies (Gencos) in evacuating/transmitting the power. So TCN pays the Gencos, while the Discos buy and pay TCN, then you and me the final consumers pay the Discos

Yea I'm at Ashaka and I can attest to the fact that the coal power plant is at 80% completion....
Though the firm and it's neighbouring community enjoys at least 23hrs power daily as of now from PHCN.
