SuperSixOne: Yes and there is reason for that A double delta aircraft shows exceptional performance in supersonic regimes, but a double delta aircraft also experiences a pitch up a high AOA at transonic regimes due to vortex breakdown which causes certain problems. In order to mitigate that the above configuration for LCA mk2 was choosen to eliminate pitch up. 3 placement positions of carnards on LCA mk2 was studied and tested. And the present position of the fully active close coupled carnard on LCA was selected out of the 3. Since it allows to reduce the shock strength near the wing surface due to additional flow vortices which allows the vortices to travel further downstream towards the wing leading edges creating additional lift in the aft region . This reduces the severity of pitch up in transonic regime and delays it to higher AOA. so benefits are there for LCA mk2 and also certain disadvantages like increased RCS and increased complexity of design. Being a double detla planform , it already has good performance at supersonic regimes and inclusion of CCC allows it to overcome disadvantage of high pitch up at transonic regime ( due to it being a double delta ) while as a bonus allows for even higher AOA in both supersonic and transonic regime. Anyways untill the designs r freezed officially one cannot be sure , the canards might also get dropped in the final production design. As for international customers I will not be holding my breath , Ind...... stupidity is legendary 2 Likes |

Surprise surprise Naval carrier capable LCA MK2 is different from airforce LCA MK2 It doesn't have the carnards instead it has a unique combination of LERX and LEVCON control surfaces. Additionally it has a stabilizer control surfaces at the rear end which is not present in the airforce version.

As I said before NAVAL LCA MK2 is a clean state design featuring optimised carrier deck handling, minimized approach speed (via use of vortex flaps), lighter undercarriage (via outboard shift of wings), active CG control (via pump based fuel transfer) and introduces stabilators at the tail.

nemesis8u: @nemesis8u no offence to Ind** technology ingenuity but i don't feel like the LCA MK2 is a revolutionary concept. its basically another Gripenized aircraft. Both in design and role. i'm of the opinion that the whole development process of the LCA MK2 is to enable Ind** learn and understand essential aerospace/technical skillset which is paying off anyway. the LCA MK2 is a two decades too late. the AMCA should be focused on, instead of the LCA MK2.... considering that countries like China, U.S., France as well as Britain is currently exploring 6th generation aircraft concept in both the optionally manned/unmanned and A.I plus sensors fusion sector. personally, i believe the LCA MK2 is more like a 'white elephant' project that is just to increase squadron strenght and keep the Ind** people happy and the aerospace industry afloat. in my perspective, the LCA MK2 is not bringing new capabilities to the proverbial table, its as good as getting more Mig-29s or other similar fighters. with many aircraft makers scrambling to supply ind** with a wide variety of aircraft, i'll suggest they just get develop tye LCA MK2 quickly, increase combat strenght and then focus on the AMCA. The AMCA is the game changer... what do you think?? 1 Like |

lionel4power: Yes ur correct Anyways I would like to add something more If u see the whole picture u will realise that designing and proving a aircraft is just one side of the coin , the other side is the need of necessary competence and capabilities to handle the productionization of the said aircrafts which in turn involves a length process of identifying the 1000s of vendors and then making such vendors technically competent and then ensuring the vendors r financially supported to an extent to allow them to venture into the small margin aerospace sector. And keep them relevant as long as possible. All these is a constant process running into decades , one cannot have any interruption otherwise u will lose the vendors and the capabilities . In light of that and the usual Ind..... stupidity one needs to have a sort of over lapping programs. Like LCA mk2 and AMCA. LCA MK2 is build on experience of LCA mk1 and AMCA will be built on experience of LCA mk2 to a large degree. One cannot jump technology . Only US has successfully built a 5 th generation aircraft , others r half way through and struggling , forget about 6 the gen , which I think is a mirage at this point of time and even in the coming years. Even Japan who is so advanced is reluctant. AMCA might suffer problems during development so in that case it is important to have a fallback option to allow AMCA development some breathing space . 5 gen aircraft development is no joke. Ind... will definitely struggle a lot. As I said before ur correct in ur assessment but unfortunately things r more complicated and not as simple and add to it the stupidity of the Ind..... So best to have the indigenous gripenized aircraft and keep the money home rather than send it out side the country. Though some money may go out for the MMRCA , which is needed to arrest the falling nos in the meantime. But the million dollar question is will the morons be able to deliver on time so that the aircraft does not loose relevance ? Well that is something I will not answer even on gun point , may be if somebody entices me with a 5 TB good collection of porn then my answer will be ............... |

First pics of Quick reaction SAM ( QRSAM ) BMFR ( battery multifunction radar ) What is unique about this system is that the radars r flush with the carrier body. U can see 2 radars and 2 IFF radars one each on the front and rear and 4 radars at the sides ( 2 on either side ) embedded within the body of the carrier
