Geds: Hello. I'm a final year Industrial Engineering student at the University of Ibadan and will be glad to help you out with your questions about the field as much as I can.

Hi. Thank you for responding to my post. My first questions are addressed to your experience in the degree at UI.

1. I've been trying to access again the school's Industrial Engineering department pages with no success. So, I'm not very sure if I'm correct, but I don't remember seeing any specializations in the course when I succeeded in accessing them some months ago. Is this really the case? Are there no specializations?

2. What is the curriculum for the first year?

3. What kind of tasks do you feel ready to handle considering that you're about to enter the labor market? What has the degree made you able to do?

I'd really appreciate your answers.

To your first question, there are currently no specializations in the undergraduate program. Although, most graduates go on to specialize in areas such as project management, operations research, human factors engineering and supply chain management.

To your second question,
The first year's curriculum entails the basic science courses i.e. Physics, maths, statistics and chemistry.

To your third question
With the skills I've learnt, I can manage projects usimg tools such as critical path method (CPM), Project evaluation and review technique (PERT) and network analysis.
I can also function effectively in supply chain management, using my knowledge of demand forecasting and inventory management.
I can also work in the maintenance department of any organization, using my knowledge of reliability engineering, maintainability, inventory management and engineering economics.
My training in safety and reliability engineering will also be very useful in any oil and gas industry.

The skills I have gained studying this course, can be applied in various fields, but I feel I am adequately prepared for the ones I have listed above. I am really glad you are intetested in this course, as the country needs mote Industrial engineers to ensure that firms perform optimally.

Another winner of my AjanleKoko award for Sensibility, right here!

For the first time in a long while, an undergrad posts something on the Career board, and it's not any of the following questions:

- How can I get a job in an oil and gas company embarassed
- Any hope for me, I'm a graduate of industrial engineering cry
- How much salary for a fresh graduate of industrial engineering?

Bravo! wink

Thank you so much. I really am grateful for such clear answers. I may ask you more questions later. But for now, there's no need for other questions I would have asked.

Hello am an 100level undergraduate in Industrial Production Engineering, and I just came across this tread.
With regards to the Nigerian labour market, do you have any reservations, regrets, or advice for me as an undergraduate in this field.

Engineering generally is lucrative but a very tough field in Nigeria because of the low level of industrialisation in this country. Most Industries are owned by foreigners..Engineering education in Nigeria is of really poor standard. So you save money for technical trainings. So you are in right field but its gonna be a tough one. Good luck.

Thank you so much.

Can you tell me more about this technical training, where can I get this training and is it possible to do it together with my degree program?
