ToyinDipo: Maybe after this election if we Yorubas on Nairaland ain't too busy we can start pushing a consciousness/awareness movement and hopefully catch the attention of Yoruba leaders of thought outside of here. While we identify proudly as Nigerians, we should also push for a system where our leaders are able to provide an enabling environment for the average Yoruba to develop his "omoluabi" -his Yorubaness to the full and bring that to bear on his nationalistic outlook and worldview. Our political leaders and kings are busy savouring the sweetness of crude oil, forgetting that Pa Awolowo of blessed memory built the Yoruba land with proceeds from cocoa sales. We Yorubas, youths and elders have folded our arms long enough. We shouldn't wait until outsiders repeatedly slap us in the face before we wake up and stay woke. While we welcome every Nigerian irrespective of ethnicity and religion into our region to live and prosper and enjoy the fruit of the earth as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution, the development and progress of Yorubaland, I feel should be spearheaded and championed and pushed by Yoruba politico-socioeconomic leaders everywhere. It is insane to leave this very important duty in the hands of our guests who don't understand the very principle of "omoluabi". Though, to be sure, it seems even we are forgetting what that means. It is time to hold our leaders, councillors, local government chairmen, states and federal legislators, governors, religious, academic and royal leaders accountable to the office they occupy. This is the time to make them account for every kobo, every working hour they pretend to work for us. This is the way forward for Yorubas and for Nigeria. Enough is enough. Ó TÓ GÉ. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Buharifanatic: I am not forbes...mind you if you accept to be profiled by forbes magazin...then you can be accessed and classed as one. Rothschilds for one are not there....my point is we are discussing political participation...Nigeria is federation....Hausas live in the East doing their business...selling cows, carrots, polishing shoes etc..but during voting they go home to vote...it is their choice...it is a free world...but the Igbo man in Lagos prefers to vote in Lagos...what is wrong with that? It is free world...you are pained that he had the guts to stay to vote and be voted for in Lagos which is a Yoruba State... |
