He is less than 5 and we didn't use a car seat. They insisted we use the seat belt for him though. So far, only one Uber guy refused carrying us without a car seat. The rest have always just asked that we use the seat belt. We have gotten him a car seat sha.

I read somewhere the car seat law does not affect taxis. Uber is considered a private vehicle that's probably why the uber driver declined.

I'm guessing like everything in Canada, this will also depend on province.

Samsung works with most telephone service providers.
I could not take advantage of a very good deal on Freedom mobile because of my phone. Huawei and Infinix might work with some networks but Samsung works with virtually all the networks.
Not sure about Nokia

No be Canada I carry am go oo. I said Minnesota.I couldn't even finish the beans so I gave it to a new Ugandan friend I made. She specifically asked if the beans was from home, and I when I said yes she was very excited and happily collected it. So I guess my wahala paid off, I made someone happy!

Thanks for this timely and insightful reply, I must say that I really appreciate it. I read that Project management, IT and Construction are good and booming sector in Calgary right now. I have taken my time to check out some courses that are related with PM & Construction and others that I am interested in SAIT. These are some of it.

- Applied project management certificate of achievement

- Geomatic Engineering technology (Diploma-2 yrs)

- Civil Engineering technology (Diploma-2 yrs)

- Bachelor of Science Construction Project Management (Bachelor degree- 4 yrs)

- Bachelor of Applied Technology Geographic Information Systems (Applied degree- 2 yrs)

(1) What do you think about the above courses?
(2) Do you think the certificate of achievement courses generally can get one a good job?
(3) Do you know of any Co-op Program or those with internship in Calgary or Alberta generally?
I kindly await your response and also contribution from our other seniors in Calgary.

- In addition, does anyone has close and personal contact or link to any Realtor based in Calgary. I might also consider this too. I would like to ask some questions. Thanks

salford:

1. You need P. GEO to practice as a geologist. You could however get your Geo in training just like Engineer in training. I haven't seen any new or recently landed geo getting geo jobs. Some of the Geos (oil industry) I know actually lost jobs. Alberta oil sector is not quite down, but it is very down. Na optimization dey reign now for those still operatimg. We have one of the most expensive oil mining process in the world so Alberta took a heavy hit. No suprise Calgary has either the highest or second highest unemployment rate amongst cities in Canada. Office jobs which Calgary is majorly known for were seriously affected.
Are there any other jobs you might be willing tp explore outside the oil industry?

On the brighter side, the Conservative party are likely to win the election in Alberta in a couple of weeks. Although, the conservative government do not control the world price of oil, but maybe just maybe some of the conventional energy investors that fled during the down turn will return since the Conservative are usually against anything green energy or sustainable development.

2. I highly doubt you will get a realtor job that pays salary. They are usually strictly commision. They collect some percent of the sellers sale. If you are good at selling or flipping houses, you could make tons of money. I mean serious tons of money. Why would a realtor need salary anyway when some of the super realtors can sell 6 houses in a good month and make nothing less than 10k on each house sold. The housing industry is one of the biggest industry in Canada for a reason.

Good luck!

Wow, my fellow GEO. I am happy to finally meet one too. I am also interested in the PMP certification. How long does it take to be done and when do u intend to land?

Ehiobe:
Finally seen someone in my field. Also have Bsc Geology and Msc petroleum geoscience. Although I have been seeing some geology jobs on indeed here and there was one ExxonMobil one and there is even a Canadian govt one now that deadline is in Oct. 2019. However since I hear the oil industry is shaking in alberta I am open to a career change. My sis is in ontario so I plan to go there for family support since I have small children and my hubby isn't relocating yet. I am thinking of project management plan to do to PMP certification here in naija before leaving.

Lol oil money ends in Naija, so it seems. I was looking at doing a graduate certificate course in project mgt at UToronto but it's really costly. Plus I'll have to still do the PMP certification to practice so I'm exploring other options.

Not exactly “we’ll informed” but from what I’ve read on the news, the previous liberal government made post secondary schooling tuition-free for low income Ontario residents. This created a $12 billion deficit and is not sustainable for OSAP. The new government is scrapping the tuition free policy and is reducing tuition fees across board for post secondary institutions by 10% beginning 2019/2020 academic session and then freezing fees for the 2020/2021 session. This does not impact eligibility for grants for students which are usually assessed when student loan apps are submitted.
czaratwork:
https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.flare.com/news/doug-ford-changes-for-ontario/amp/

Those of us in Ontario, the time to enjoy the OSAP loan is now especially the part of it that you don't have to repay. By next year, a lot will change. I hear people are rushing to enjoy it while it lasts.

If you have the intention to go to school, delay no further as we don't know what OSAP will look like next year.

Please anyone well informed should enlighten us on changes in OSAP loan.

3. Food safety certificates courses are usually for people working or hoping to get a job in a place where food is prepared on a large scale. I know Provincial health services are one of the major employers of people with such certificates. I do not know maybe you meant a different food processing industry since what you hold is an advanced certificate. Have you checked Alberta occ info or indeed ca to see where such certificate(s) would lead you?

4. Can't say much about this since this will majorly depend on what you love doing. Your best bet would be to explore careers that are recession proof. The closest thing to your Geo if you decide to look for similar alternate careers with better career prospect at the moment (while keeping SAIT in mind) would be Civil Engineering/Tech.

Good luck!

Good morning great people. I'm having some concerns about my phone numbers. I really don't want them recycled to some other people, so how can I keep them active even after landing in Canada?

Called mtn about this- they have a product called "keep my number" which allows you to keep your number for as long as 3 years if you are leaving the country. The charges are as follows:

1 year- 500
2 years- 800
3 years- 1200

Dial *365# to initiate your desired plan.

Hello everyone, silent reader here. Please I need your advise on a couple of questions.
Currently, I work in the oil and gas production sector (working on a FPSO) in the Gulf of Guinea as a production Technician. Checking on www.alis.alberta.ca I fall in the category of “field production operator”. Now my questions are
1. What are the chances of getting a job as a field production operator/technician. (Even if it’s a land location). I have been working in the O&G production line for about 7yrs+
Oil price is not encouraging O&G companies to go into new ventures right now but I believe production will still go on now matter how small.

2. Is it advisable I start working on getting EIT for APEGA (I have a petroleum engineering background), ASET (since the job I have experience in is more of a technician role) or I focus myself on getting a power engineering certificate.

Any inputs will be appreciated as I’m just trying to prepare adequately while awaiting PPR. Thank you.
