We will be celebrating 'Battle of Adwa' after few days. This is how we celebrate year after year.



We have something called 'Guzo Adwa'. Which means trip Adwa. Volunteer youths gather and walk from Addis Ababa to the place where the battle was made. Imagine, addis is on the center of Ethiopia and Adwa is near Eritrea. That is a long way to go.

You see, this is the problem. We haven't promoted our history enough. People were supposed to know Empeor menelik because he is the one who fought and kicked Italians to not get colonized. He was such a civilized smart man. He brought the first car in Africa, first post office, first cinema, first hotel, first train, first school. . . He is a real father to Ethiopia. Our reason for our freedom and civilization.




Once, famine got to Ethiopia. . .cows were dying. A disisease ruined the country. He get off his chair, arranged his cloth and started working with farmers until Ethiopia was good. He is famous in his personality. He aided the Italians who fought him on Battle of Adwa. He is a forgiving man with a brave heart. Some people have occured now who insult him as a racist man. That is all a lie and i hope and wish Africa could have leaders as this man. May he rest in peace

It's like the Queen of Sheeba.Both the biblic and the Quranic scholars reckon that she's from Yemen of Arab ancestry but the Ethiopians claim that she's from them!

Everybody is fighting in claiming these figures! Jeez!

Oh,I see. It's common knowledge that the kingdom of Kush is right below Egypt. For this simple reason it became known and prominent before the lower kingdom below it which came much later. Kush which is modern day Sudan was established around 700BC and was already prominent by 500BC around the time much of the first testament was scripted. The name Kush came from the egyptians and the name ethiopia came from the greeks.In fact, Herodotus got there and described the land and the people. Mind you, the kingdom Menelik established was not established until around 100BC and Aksum, its main part never became prominent until around 10AD or so. Moreover, Herodotus the most traveled historian of the time and a Greek,never got to Abyssinia.Maybe someone would like to tell us the origin of the name Ethiopia. It's definitely Greek. The archaeological records available have proved beyond doubt that modern day Ethiopia ain't the same as biblical Ethiopia. It used to have the name Abyssinia until much later. Just follow the timeline.

I see in 2017 - the two major candidates got like 27M - Kenya two candidates got 15m.

The Battle of Adwa (Amharic: አድዋ; Amharic translated: Adowa, or sometimes by the Italian name Adua) was fought on 1 March 1896 between the Ethiopian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy near the town of Adwa, Ethiopia, in Tigray. This climactic battle of the First Italo-Ethiopian War, was a decisive defeat for Italy and secured Ethiopian sovereignty for a few decades more.

As the 20th century approached, Africa had been carved up among the European powers at the Berlin Conference. The two independent exceptions were the Republic of Liberia on the west coast and Ethiopia, then still commonly known as Abyssinia, in the eastern Horn of Africa region. The newly unified Kingdom of Italy was a relative newcomer to the imperialist scramble for Africa. Italy had two recently obtained African territories: Eritrea and Italian Somalia. Both were near Ethiopia on the Horn of Africa. Italy sought to improve its position in Africa by conquering Ethiopia and joining it with its two territories. Menelik II as the contemporary Ethiopian leader pitted Italy against its European rivals while stockpiling weapons to defend Ethiopia against the Italians.
