Thanks. Yes we are going to stay here permanently. In theory, it is very simple (though you will need a few paperwork along the way).

Come to Brazil on any visa (most likely tourist visa). Public hospitals are totally free and anyone who finds him or herself in Brazil can attend public hospital for free. It is the law so do not worry. Find a hospital and attend your pre or postnatal care.

Ones you give birth, your baby is automatically a Brazilian citizen no matter parents nationality, race, immigration or criminal status or background.

According to Brazilian law, parents of a Brazilian child cannot be expelled from Brazil no matter his or her immigration status in the country. So don’t worry even if your visa expires. You get a 90 day visa and can be extended for another 90 days in Brazil. Based on this law, parents of a Brazilian childare automatically entitled to permanent resident which is given to you on the spot after you apply at the police station. It allows you to live, work or run your own business. Whatever you choose to do. With the permanent visa you are not allowed to live outside Brazil for more than 2 years at a time.

I have lived in the US and can tell you for sure that Brazil is a beautiful country with super nice people. The salaries may not be as high as the US but certainly much better than most African and Eastern European countries. And in terms of infustucture Brazil beats most European countries. And if you are a business minded person then Brazil is for you. The population is 240 million.

Please keep in mind that you will need some paperwork for your permanent application. You, your partner and all previous children you have qualify for it and get it on the spot. After just one year of living in Brazil and speaking some Portuguese, you and the rest of your family qualify for a Brazilian Passport.

Brazilian Passport currently takes you to 161 visa free countries, 171 visa free, visa on arrival. Brazilians do not need visa to stay in all of Europe for 3 months and UK for 6 months in a year.

Thanks. Zika was a big concern to us when we understood this journey. I’m going to tell you what I observed on the ground here and not as a medical professional. This are my views and the few personal researches i made.

So basically Zika was an epidemic. Which means it came in around 2015, 2016 and gone. That doesn’t mean there is no Zika but as of today, it is no more an epidemic. Remember, West Africa is also classified as a Zika Zone which means as of today women have equal chances of contracting Zika here in Brazil and in West Africa. In 2015, 2016 things were different.

That said we took all the precautions we could to prevent it. This included renting an air conditioned apartment, putting on mosquito repellent cream when going out and staying in doors while watching movies and taking life easy. After all, we did not come for tourism. Tourism comes later after we rip the fruit of our labor.

We saw Brazilian pregnant women exposing their bodies all the time and did not end up with Zika. At least we did not see one. Just spend a little more to stay in a nice neighborhood and you are less likely to get Zika. Most women who got Zika in 2016 leaved in poor areas with bad sanitation issues.

For cities to guve birth, it all depends on your budget. São Paulo, Florianopolis, Rio and Brazisilia are the more expensive ones with Private hospital birthing raging from 2000 USD to 7000 USD. We gave birth in São Paulo for a package of around 3,500 USD. Public hospitals all over the country are completely free. You can give there if you want to and the facilities are at least better than home. If you want cheap cities then go to the north: Salvador but again, i will spend a little bit more given the benefits a Brazilian child can bring.

Remember, your entire family including previous children get permanent residency. All you have to do is to give birth to one Brazilian child and everyone is covered. So i will personally make some sacrifices to ensure the safety of that baby and confort of the mum.

@Adj10....I want to ask this question, am working here in Nigeria and i can only have 2 months maternity leave, so am sure i will leave after 2 months of giving birth, like you said i will sure secure my child's Brazilian passport before that 2 months and maybe also get a residence permit too, now my question can i go back to Brazil maybe after a year to apply for my Citizenship as the parent or i must live in Brazil for a certain number of months/years ?

Firstly i did not apply for a visa in Nigeria however, all Brazilian visa applications are standard with maybe minor changes. In general Brazilian visa requirements are similar to that of the US. For a more accurate list of documents, i will advise you to check the website of the Brazilian embassy in Lagos and Abuja. Please do not inform them that you intent to come and give birth here. Just come on tourism. For that you will most likely need the following:

1. A filled visa application form which should be available at the embassy’s website.

2. An invitation letter or a hotel booking. I went with the hotel booking option. You don’t need to pay the hotel until you arrive.

3. Your bank account statement

4. An e-booking. Please do not buy the ticket. Just a booking to give them an idea of the number of days you intend staying in Brazil.

That is all we needed but again it depends from country to country.

For the interview, just take along a list of places you want to visit and activities you would like to do.

Very important: Please apply for your visa early whiles your stomach is not showing. Brazilian visa is very relaxed unlike other countries. Your visa will be valid for one year starting from the day it was issued. Within this one year of validity, you can stay in Brazil for only 180 days at a time. 90 days and then 90 days extension. So you can have your visa way ahead and decide to travel anytime within the 1 year.

To your second question... I did not live in Florianópolis however here is a general rule of thumb: Brazil is a tourism country meaning it has high seasons where you have lots of tourists thus from November to March. In a city like Florianopolis you should expect to pay around 600- 1200 USD per month for a one bedroom apartment with AC for the 3 of you. The 600 USD are still very good apartments.

In other months not mentioned here that is the low season. In Florianópolis, you should expect to pay around half of the high season.

The parents must have been a residence for that time. And someone on here also said the same thing, see our conversion below. Is it really possible to get it in 2years and also how long after the childbirth before the parents gets residence permit. Sorry I am asking too many questions, you're there and have been through this path, I just want to make informed decision. I am doing very well here in Nigeria money is not my problem, but i don't want to raise my kids here. I will never want them to go through what i went through. So my impending migration is not based on money. I will take a security a job, thank God I have the built I don't care. So long as my kids will get good education, good healthcare. I just want my kids to grow up in a sane environment. Where if there is an emergency at 2am for my daughter I can be rest assured that we will get a good hospital and be attended to immediately etc.

Thanks. I have just checked the website you sent. I realised that it was writing in 2011 and I don’t know how the law was at that time. What i can tell you for sure as of today is that parents are granted permanent residency on the spot when you apply in Brazil. The actual residence card can take up tp 2 months to have but you are given a document on the spot by the police that allows you to do everything the Residence permit does while awaiting the actual card.

As for the citizenship, as of today, it is the law of Brazil that parents of a Brazilian child are granted citizenship after continuously residing in the country for a year after obtaining the permanent residency. You will of course have to learn portugees. This is the current law and that is the fact. I have gone through it and I’m a living testimony. Thanks

What i can tell you for sure as of today is that parents are granted permanent residency on the spot when you apply in Brazil. The actual residence card can take up tp 2 months to have but you are given a document on the spot by the police that allows you to do everything the Residence permit does while awaiting the actual card.

It takes 4 weeks to get d visa. Check their website. You will see d list of documents needed for visa. Pls note, Brazil embassy does verify bank statement. I also had my baby there last year. It was an amazing experience in terms of document. I have my PR and my baby is a citizen. Though, we r back to Nigeria.

I sent u a mail. I was given just a month visa. Your status will be changed when u give birth and file your application. You will come home with a PR. Having a Brazilian child is d easiest way of being legal.

I was given a month tourist visa but your status will be changed when u give birth to your baby and fill in your application. The easiest and legal way to get their document is having a Brazilian baby irrespective of your immigration status.

I applied as a tourist cos that is d only way to get their visa if u do not know anyone there.My hubby submitted and collected d visa on my behalf cos I didn't want them to know I was pregnant. I heard it is not possible again cos alot of Nigerians are going there to give birth under d disguise of tourism. So u have to apply in person. The visa is now extremely difficult cos their immigration is complaining dat Nigerians pregnant women are trooping in2 their country to give birth using their free healthcare. Nothing is impossible as people still get their visas though.Public healthcare is free. In fact u will be given some baby things In d hospital like pampers, baby clothes etc. Also, three times meal until u r discharged from d hospital.Free test for your baby and subsequent monthly check up until d baby is 1. When d baby is born, series of test will be conducted to know if hes healthy. Eg PUK, hearing test , blood group and genotype etc. It is completely free. Even immunisation is given without stress. Baby takes first immunisation b4 leaving d hospital. It will be given on d bed. Lols. Unlike here dat u queue up for immunisation.

Hmmm, why am I not surprised? Unfortunately you're one of the Nigerians causing exactly why getting the Brazil visas is now very difficult for Nigerians.

I sent an email to the consular office and their reply was that you can submit in person or courier, which means it's not necessary to submit in person. Thanks for your input.
