My suggestion, your supervisor in my opinion is right. Is better to be safe then sorry, at the end is your house. Be wise.

Soil testing cost depends on the scope of work, the size of the land and the structure to put on.

For a simple duplex in Lagos and suburb, the cost is generally not less 300k. It should include cpt, spt and laboratory analysis.

Please kindly ask them to combine 16mm and 12mm.
16mm as the reinforcement beam at the lander (or table) while 12mm will be for the mat or runners using their term.
