If Igbos Taxes Are Good For Lagos... by mekaboy(m): 6:35am On Mar 03, 2019 |
All this Lagos ownership talk is simply because of elections. Igbos have been law abiding and peaceful in Lagos, until now. All because of elections they have become disrespectful to their host. Well Lagos is hosting Igbos and not tinubu. Tinubu does not own Lagos, neither is he the head of the Yoruba tribe. Therefore cannot expect igbos to bow at his feet. If the igbos taxes are good for Lagos, then their votes should be good as well. 12 Likes 3 Shares |

mekaboy: This is how you make issues out of no issue. Since you have made Tinubu your attack target please can you make reference to any comment or issue sponsored by Tinubu against the Igbos Of all the governors that have governed Lagos state, it is in record that Tinubu was the first to begin recognizing Igbos in his government and as well giving them posts, positions and contracts, the first child one day Lagos governor initiated by Tinubu was an Igbo child and he didn't discriminate against him. Today because of Tinubu's gesture Igbos now work in Lagos states ministry and Lagos state establishments and can also hold elective positions in Lagos state. You left issue and focused your attack on Tinubu because you Igbos has turned Tinubu to your nightmare and that makes you and whoever thinks like you a loser and a coward. And about your taxes take this message to your other Igbo people that if they are not going to start respecting us, our leaders and our culture you will soon experience a revolution that will see you all driven out of Lagos back to your land. Shameless people boasting to make Lagos what it is and abandon their own place to dilapidation. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

X Boy, these people keep yapping about Igbo tax. And I think we need to do a type of assessment of tax system in Lagos to see the relevance of this claim. - The 90% of Igbos in Lagos are petty traders. They are mostly 2 by 2 shop owners who sell Igbo food, spare parts, ogbono, oporoko, sub-standard boutiques, gala, lacasera, fan yoghurt & such petty nonsenses. How many of these petty traders who make direct cash are captured in tax payment bracket? After the months earning do they take tax cuts to the government or banks? We all know the answer is 'No'. At max, they get to pay rents for space & market levy which is used by the market excos or LGA of the market for whatever benefits the same market. - The remaining 10% population covers those Igbos who are employed in Lagos Civil Service [they should not be, there are Lagos indigenes who need & should have these slots first] & those employed in private conglomerates/large establishsments. These set of people pay compulsory taxes which the government deducts before salary is paid. The same way the government deduct from the Hausa, Kanuri, Ibibio & such people resident in Lagos & fall in that category. - Lagos is filled with HQs of several private local & international companies. These include banks, telecommunication companies, oil companies, construction companies & sonon. These are the real tax payers whose taxes range in the several hundreds of millions annually. The question is, how many of theae establishments are owned by Igbos to warrant such nonsense talk about Igbo tax? Why haven't the Igbo taxes made Rivers & Akwa Ibom another Lagos. At least they are both highly populated by Igbos and they're both port states? Why haven't Igbo taxes paid in the 5 Igbo states developed the 5 Igbo states? These states are small & not very populated so it should not be a problem yet since 1960, not one Igbo city has been developed by Igbo taxes. You all need to GTFOH properly. 15 Likes 3 Shares |

Igbos in diaspora do not buy lands and scatter houses in every country on earth - they send money home. As other tribes see you as foreigners, why not emulet those in diaspora - work in their land and send money home. |

oscallins: The parts making up Lagos today had existed for centuries & thrived even when the slavers, missionaries & colonialists got here. These parts that make up Lagos have always been bubbling & economically buoyant. Epe, Badagry, Island were slaving ports that became good exchange & export ports. Ikorodu and Ikeja/mainland were very solid trading points for products from Yoruba hinterlands, farming, cloth making & dying etc. The first set of Igbos to come to Lagos got there around 1910. Your influx became great after the Jan 1966 coup. You began your nonsense at the time which made Akintola & Bello speak up. You left in 1967 for years, Lagos did not collapse. You leave annually for Christmas, Lagos did not collapse. You should understand that if you leave today, Lagos will continue to grow like it has been before your 20th century leaf wearing fathers ever got here. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Printerscanner:Why have you failed to develop Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo and Ogun to Lagos standard? Are they not Yoruba States? Is it not idiotic if you promote Lagos land as Yoruba heritage and wealth but sees Niger Delta Resources as God's gift to all Nigerians. AngryNijerian: The only parts of Lagos state that are developed are Victoria Island & Ikoyi. Why? Because it was the seat of colonial settlement and later, capital of Nigeria. Ikorodu, Epe, Ikeja/mainland were all part of Western Region & they were developed by cocoa money under Baba Awolowo [I know that name haunts you ]. Now, while Ikoyi/VI were being developed as FCT. In Oyo state we have Ibadan, yes, the same Ibadan had the first TV & Radio, before other African countries and even France!; the same Ibadan had the first skyscraper in Naija/W. Africa; the same Ibadan became a planner city where several Igbos flocked to for education & jobs. Ibadan rivaled V.I/Ikoyi. And while Yoruba buil, Ibadan, t a city that other counteies envied & flocked to, the Igbos were not able to build anything. There Azikwe has not one single legacy they can point to. As per oil, Ondo has oil & so does Lagos now. Abi is Ondo also Delta oil? Matter fact, Ondo produces oil more than the Igbo state with oil so what is your fuzz about? This is Lagos, a Yorubaland. If you want to be bothered about governance, go back to your state and bother about how it is being governed. You can not come here and tell us what is what, go & do that where you originate from. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

mekaboy: This is the problem, because you guys copy paste each other doing the same business, then you automatically assume you are the only source of whatever the business gives. There are several Yoruba & Hausa who import electronic gadgets, they just not littering the entire space replicating each other's style. Also, a good number of people prefer to buy directly from overseas. Nonetheless, how many of these your copy paste out of idea redundant business owjers are captured in Lagod tax system? 5 Likes 1 Share |

0balufonlll: They are all captured, directly or indirectly. How many of the hausa importers You claim own property in Lagos? If you know anything about business as u claim, you will know that single items will be more expensive than a contianer quantity. 60 percent of cargo in Nigeria goes to onitsha. The remaining 40% goes to Lagos. That tells you that 90% of imported items in Nigeria is done by igbos. Every family in Lagos has minimum of 1 item imported by an igbos. Every business in Lagos patronize igbos directly or indirectly. Wether it is the company car parts, machinery for production or electronics. That's where they get the money to buy land. You will be shocked that igbo taxes will be second to oil and Gas and banking sector in Lagos. I am sure that you are still shocked how the igbos that came from the civil war with nothing have caught up with yorubas that took over all their positions in Foreign companies in Nigeria. Tell the government to tell igbos to stop paying their insignificant taxes so they can stop voting in Lagos. 1 Like |
