Best wishes as you prepare, Scard.
I remember at my centre we debated before the exam whether or not to start Section B with the addresses. I didn't eventually and scored ok in EE. I won't worry too much about the addresses - but if you do include them, you'd need to make sure the spellings, format, et al are correct.
Secondly, while it obviously depends on your comfort levels, you really don't have to use that many complex sentences. Short, punchy and active sentences are just as fine, I think. Where you can use a variety of verbs, you should. And throw in different tenses where possible (imparfait, PC, subjontif, gerondif), to demonstrate your knowledge.
Bonne chance!

Scard:
Well done everyone for your various contributions to this group. It continues to be a tremendous source of help to me, and I'm sure so many others.

So, I have been able to break down the writing into bite size using the Section B format.

Name and address of both sender and recipient
Solid introduction and conclusion
Use of connecting words
Arrangement of Paragraphs.

For the above, I would say I am making good progress. However, the only major challenge now is the actual sentence construction. I am realising that writing single simple sentences is far different from writing complex sentences that forms an essay or journal. I pray I am able to get around that pretty quickly.

Hello Prettiepearls,

Even though you are making enquiries about TEF, I can't help but notice that it seems age is still very much on you side.

While, some whizkids here @nj......., @Booty, @ Bellerin, @ Mamaroon etc were able to do very well within a short time, it is not that easy to achieve within 6 months.

My advice would be, if you are still significantly below 32 years of age, you can easily register for the NOUN 1 year program to boost your score. It pathway has helped a lot of people and I personally think it is more straight-forward than this TEF thing.

Sincerely, if I could esape taking the exam, I woud have gladly done so, but age is not my friend and the various PNPs do not align with me.

All in all, it is very possible to pass it within a year of intense study.

All the best

Prettiepearlz:

Thank you ma’am I appreciate this. Yes I am aiming for CLB 7 and I can’t classify my knowledge of French from my secondary days as a knowledge because I didn’t do anything with it again and the hustle to come of university with good grades replaced any idea of French. But with six months of classes or even more I should be able make it right? Where will you recommend I take the classes? I know the exam is definitely with AF. Thanks ma’am. I intend to start the classes as soon as I am done with IELTS saga. I am trying to do this fast as I was told that that for every Birthday after your 29th, you lose 5 points, I don’t really have that much time to waste on acquiring a masters degree from Nigeria.

Thank you for this information @ Mamaroon. My wife went to make inquiry's at AF in Ibadan. They said the TEF exam can now be taken at AF in Ibadan at the cost price is 120k. But for beginners, one will need 8 months of study from beginner to advanced before one can be really confident to write the TEF exams. From your experience, what do you think?

Mamaroon:

I think they were just giving you the schedule of how they move from one level to the next e.g. A1 to B1 etc. It doesn't have to take you 3 years. I would suggest you do some self assessment (since you have done secondary school French) and determine your level then decide on next steps. Below is a quote from NJ with some TEF tests and practice questionand in the last 2 folders....it may take 3 to 6 months at a mininum though if the aim is CLB 7 in all 4 areas.....this is my guess...you may even decide to attend the AF TEF prep classes for a month and if you can cope with those then your level is definitely not beginner....... All the best...

The bolded is good news. Hopefully other AF centres will jump on this train soon. Lower the cost even more

Sorry I wasn't an absolute beginner.......but would suggest you go with AF if you know zero french and see how the learning goes. Also as Scard mentioned earlier...cross check your CRS to make assurance doubly sure that you need TEF in the first place. All the very best.

Congratulations.I just joined this thread, and came upon your post.

I am looking at this avenue as well, to take TEF, but I only just have very limited knowledge of french. Please how long did it take you to study and pass very well in french, or did you have a background in French.
Je parle un peu francais parceque c'est longtemps je etudie francais. Mais je veux apprendre vite vite.... cheesy cheesy cheesy

The bolded section was written off the top of my head. But please I am seriously in need of a guide on what to do.
My CRS scores right now is 429 and except for a miracle, I am not certain this will give me an ITA.
So I was thinking i could go into the pool with 429, and do my french while in the pool and then update and see what happens.

Another question is whatif i do not get up to CLB 7 in all the areas, that means I do not get points for french, but i will still get the 30 points right?
Please how does this work?

Thanks.

Hi guys. I hope we're all progressing along steadily in our studies for the French exam. I have a few words that may encourage us even more:

I HAVE GOTTEN PPR!!!!!!!!!!!!
AOR: December 14, 2018
PPR: February 20, 2019

I remember when my TEF results came out, hubby always used to say that our app processing time will be very short because Canada is looking for bilingual people grin. I just used to nod in agreement but it's like IRCC decided to prove him right o.

That aside though, I give God all the glory. He has come through for me in a very specific way (honestly I feel like before now He had left me in the care of His angels and then sometime last year, He singled me out and decided to place His hand on my head...blessings upandan, left, right and centre) and I didn't even need to beg and cry. First, with the TEF (which I did as a trial run not knowing He had other plans), and now this, PPR in 9 weeks 5 days post-AOR, with loads of other blessings inbetween. Words can't express how grateful I feel right now.

So, in case you're looking for something extra to motivate you, let's test my oga's theory which states that, EE applications with good IELTS and additional points from TEF/TCF results have a very short processing time grin grin grin grin

Who knows? Hubby might be on to something wink. Let's keep at it guys, you could be next.

I'm so overwhelmed that my head is even paining me cry

I think the reason why AF would tell a beginner that they would need 6-9months to be able to pass is so that you would have been taught up to at least the B2 level. And that's if you go with the weekday classes. With added effort one can be sure to pass the exams at 1 sitting.

Thanks Mudicua.

From the bolded, you obviously understand French quite well. My only suggestion would be to study the TEF books to determine how difficult (or easy wink)the exam may be for you. You can then start studying using any of the means that have been highlighted on this thread, focusing more on your weaker areas.

Please dive into the pool ASAP if you have your IELTS and ECA ready. You can never tell, a miracle can happen and you'll get NOI from one of the provinces, like one of us here just did.

To your last question, you'll get some points if you get CLB 5 and above in any section but you need to get CLB 7 in all sections to get the additional 30 points. To explain this, let's say you get CLB 7 in 3 sections and CLB 4 in the remaining section, you'll get 9 additional CRS points. On the other hand, with CLB 7 in all sections, you get 42 additional CRS points. Someone posted the link where you'll see this on the CIC website - please search for it

Bonne chance!

Malheureusement there's no Alliance Francaise in Benin (City). I don't know any French tutor currently in Benin, but you could go to UNIBEN to ask any of the lecturers in the French department if they can recommend any
