Volkswagen Passat CC Won't Start by Nobody: 7:10am On Mar 07, 2019
Okay, so, this vehicle is a 2010 Volkswagen Passat CC and since yesterday it has refused to start. Actually, it starts but shuts down immediately.

There's a message that shows 'Service Now' on the multi-function display. We've run a diagnostic scan on the car and no codes abi faults were detected.

I don't know, is this a safety feature from Volkswagen that prevents the car owner from driving the car when it's due for an oil change or something? Are there any Volkswagen experts or vehicle owners who have experienced such?

Also, the car was last serviced in September 2018 and is not exactly due for service right now.

Oil life time has 2 applications

Miles driven fro those who use their vehicles daily and

Months interval for those who drive their vehicles once in a blue moon.
September to March is 6 months, that's enough to change oil if mobil extended performance wasn't used.

So let's start with what type of oil was used to service the car and it's weight eg Trump 5W20 oil etc?

Using the principle of generator, a low oil quantity and degraded oil would cause engine to shut down immediately after starting or refuse to start.

Your engine starts but shutdown immediately fuel pump or faulty spark plug wires can also cause it.

Why don't you service the car again and see whether the issue would be fixed, it's time that hardex goes

Please read the thread below before servicing the car with hardex

You will need a VW specialist. Engine oil pump is most likely faulty.

Fail safe mode has probably been activated. What kind of scan tool was used. There is a pending fault on the power train. You would need to carry out a proper diagnosis to get to the root of the problem. For your oil pressure warning light you might want to start with the engine pressure oil switch. Your location?

I'm not too sure about the bolded, a mechanic ran the scan. I'm not really familiar with these tools.

I'm based in Calabar.

If a professional scan tool isn't used you wouldn't get any fault

Well, this scan tool has detected error codes in the past, even a few weeks ago. I really can't tell what's up this time.

lol grin
My advise.
You gats bleed all of that oil from that engine first, alongside oil treatment(oil flush).
Check for particles from the oil.
Replace the oil with RECOMMENDED by manufacturer motor oil and filter.
I hope it does work cos if it is oil pump, sorry.might never function like before cos most artisans hardly get this fix right.
Or if there is a vw dealership around you, kindly tow it to their location.
Spend good money and have peace of mind.
Happy spending bro
If it is oil switch, that computer on the board will tell you it's oil switch.no 2 ways about it

The car is not driven as an everyday car and I do service it according to driven miles and, well, it hasn't gotten to the next mileage due for service yet. There's still 2,000 miles or thereabout to go.

Thank you for your input anyway.

Nothing wrong with the car except bleeding it out and replacing with recommended oil.

UPDATE

Oil and oil filter have been replaced, yet car doesn't start. Before the change, it, at least, would start and shut down immediately, but now it doesn't even start at all. Smh. Diagnostic scan is still not displaying any error codes.

The 'Service now' message is gone, but the oil pressure warning is still there

You no dey hear say oil pressure light no be oil warning light? Go check your oil pump/oil switch.

It's either that your oil pump is bad, and the oil pressure sensor is sending information to ECU telling it that, or the oil pressure sensor itself is bad, and sending false information to the ECU.
Re: Volkswagen Passat CC Won't Start by sultaan(m): 1:11am On Mar 08, 2019
We are going to try to reset the computer
Disconnect the battery for about an hour reconnect and try staring again. This time look at your gages when you start and note the reading on oil pressure Gage if your car has one, but before you start turn the key to I and listen for the fuel pump to hum.

Also look at the condition of the wires to the oil pressure switch it will be near the oil filter in case some rats have been hungry. Usually happens to parked cars

Do you have a crank no start, or no crank no start
Re: Volkswagen Passat CC Won't Start by adeleks: 3:54am On Mar 08, 2019
Give more details about what is happening. My guess is the crankshaft sensor is clogged or bad. Change the oil if you can. Check the fuel pump pressure if its okay then check crankshaft sensor if non of those solve it.

She needs to open the oil sump. Check the oil pump strainer... VW and Audi's are notorious for the oil strainer sludge. Especially where less quality oils have been used. So a cleaning of the oil strainer, an engine flush and a refill with the right oil specs.

Kindly check the crankshaft sensor. I won't show on the scanner but can be the culprit especially if you stay in a muddy area and the undercover isn't there.

Mehn. I'm really sorry about this demonic problem. It happened to me too and the only solution was a complete engine cleaning before I sold the car. Apparently, this is a factory fault sometimes (according to my investigation). And even the cleaning is not guaranteed to solve the problem. It solved it in mine, thankfully.

The oil pressure error is caused by oil sludge clogging the engine. This problem occurs faster if you use low-quality oil (like Mobil 1). I used only Castrol but the person i bought it from Used Mobil 1.

Anyways, you need to contact a professional car technician and ask for comprehensive scan before you spend any extra money. If the scanner doesn't bring a fault, then the scanner is not for the car.

I managed to solve it in Lagos, and I had already written directions to the place before i saw you were in Calabar. Good luck.

Why use palm oil in an engine like this. What a pity. Check for presence of fuel, spark and compression

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention. The problem doesn't show up in scans. When you crank the engine, it gives the error and then goes off. But you need to make sure that the car has no other issues (eg with the timing chain) before you clean your engine.

If the timing chain cover is opened, you might see that the engine is badly caked with oil, this goes all the way down through the system and causes the pressure. You either clean the engine, or get another half-engine with a better oil system.

But first scan with a professional tool. If you know anyone who drives an expensive benz or BMW, ask their mechanic to recommend a VW person with the right tool to you

Mehn, what the hell is Hardex? angry angry angry angry angry angry angry

HARDEX?!

I have not seen a positive review from that brand. It is cheap for a reason.

My take is that your oil pump has been damaged by HARDEX oil and the solution is a new engine. Always use good quality engine oil for these new generation cars, they are not as forgiving as the machines from the '90's

But i doubt engine is bad yet,i think that is a fail safe by vw but the ote that owns the car keeps starting it angry

you have the option of opening up the engine on the top cover and view what engine inside looks like, if there is sludge or not, also since its timing chain it could have expanded inappropriate timing and engine won't come alive. if I were in your shoes I would 1st

1. open up engine and check whether there is sludge, if no sludge

2. Timing should have set a code but since no code I will open sump to check for sludge, if no sludge

3. The oil pressure switch is next to be replaced if that doesn't fix it.

4. look for a VAG scanner and let it do the scanning magic. Also confirm all fuse and fuel delivering apparatus are in order. Ensure the scanner is communicating with ECU.

there is a difference between no codes found but scanner communicates with ECU and the scanner isn't communicating with ECU let the technician be explicit.
