BlackBaron:That is not correct. The NA artillery are one of the best , they have made their bones. let us leave it there . There are a lot of NA GUYS that have been to hell and back despite their well deserved poor image the NPF COIN have fought well. 9 Likes |

nemesis8u:Didn't think of it because of how long it takes to obtain proficiency on it Mix in QLZ-87 grenade launchers etc as another option for medium range engagement @400m , has a HEDP ammo suited to defeat light armour Another sweet destroyer. Light and deadly out to 600m |

LTGEN:I stand by my assertion. I stated mostly... Not all. We do have some stand out units for sure. nemesis8u:Exactly. We've seen anti materiel rifles taking out engine blocks or significant damage to technicals. In all, just implying the rather lethargic ability to adapt by NA in over a decade of fighting. Some of these weapons took lesser time to get introduced in Syria. |

Odunayaw:I stated that they are expensive, but in another way could anything be expensive if your life depends on it? Good and capable weaponry could/would've maybe helped finished this war in the North East if the past and present govt were serious. I remember a movie based on the memoir of a journalist (tango whiskey foxtrot), I saw where a marine used a javelin ATGM to destroy a car, their commander berated him for using thousands dollars weapon for that purpose, but for me it got the job done and the question is, what would've happened if he didn't use the ATGM. War is expensive, very expensive. |

Geronimo, when you consider the damage technicals has done to NA, especially in the overrunning of bases as was seen late last year. You would agree that preventing that is worth the cost of an ATGM. Technicals are best engaged from a standoff range. It is when they get within range that bad things start happening. The French in op serval in Mali and earlier in Ivory Coast took em out with atgms, be it hand held, vehicle mounted or heliborne. 3 Likes |

Odunayaw: Claymore! Do we even have them in our inventory? And don't forget Nigeria has acceded to the Ottawa treaty on the non use of anti personnel mine. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Odunayaw(m): 3:05pm On Mar 07, 2019 |
Geronimoe:If that treaty can raise our dead soldiers, well what the hell! As for me, they can pound sand, its not like the claymore will be laid indiscriminately |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Odunayaw(m): 3:13pm On Mar 07, 2019 |
Geronimoe:I am for cost effectiveness. That ATGM is already listed in that units Table of Organisation and Equipment so really it would just be a matter of time for it to be used. If a Carl Gustav were on hand and the fellow used a Javelin without the necessary orders he would get a major stick. Yes, life before money but when your money is gone through attrition what then happens. |

Odunayaw: If you don't sign such agreement an embargo might be placed on such country, especially in buying military hardwares. Buying these ATGM is not the problem; if BHT should overrun one of those bases these sophisticated weapons would be used against us. That's my own fear. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Odunayaw(m): 4:13pm On Mar 07, 2019 |
bidexiii:Yes we signed them, but we aren't going to use them indiscriminately are we? Exactly, that's why I commented on that article a fellow shared here. It seemed like the article was expecting to see atgm in terrorist hands |

#Libya- interesting combo: We're used to seeing the #Jordan|ian-made KADDB al-Wahsh APC in Libya by now, but looks like this one is sporting a recoilless rifle in the Snake Head turret.

#Algeria- another large weapons cache discovered in Tamanrasset, near #Mali/#Niger, which according to the MDN (hard to verify because poor pics) contained (among others): 10 BM-21 rockets, 12 120mm shells, 2 SPG-9 shells, an RPG-2 and 180 grenades .

Seems there's still heavier arms available in #Libya: This 9K111M Faktoria ATGM was available for sale in late Jan 2019. It was manufactured in Febuary 1999, has serial 02451 & was likely made in Russia. The Faktoria is one of the more modern/deadly versions of the Fagot ATGM.

Nigerian Army Troops of 22 Brigade repelled an ISWAP infiltration into Ngowm Village on Wednesday 6th March 2019, scores of terrorists killed. Military recovered are 2 Gun Trucks mounted with 12.7mm AA's 2 RPG Bombs and 5 AK47rifles. Additionally captured was a Galil ACE most likely looted from the Cameroonian BIR and almost certainly would have been used by an ISWAP commander. Nigerian Army defensive posture seems to have improved over the last few months around Lake T'chad with better base defences and fortifications. 8 Likes

Odunayaw:We know that to counter Boko boys swarm tactics, NA has tried mounting AGL to their vehicles and even at bases, but we don’t see those around anymore, in 2016 NA also acquired Gatling guns but we don’t see those around either, maybe only special forces employ them Anyways I think it’s the responsibility of NA senior officers to find a lasting solution that’s affordable yet effective to this issue of BHT technicals. 7 Likes

jakeporeshenko:Yes, we don't see them around often but they are still in theatre. Few numbers maybe? The Gatlings are veryyyy few, probably bought to test if its better than firing shilkas. The issue with the Army is never buying or never buying enough[Arms or Ammo] (Another reason why I am so pissed with how DICON is being handled) Another way of doing things is to track and destroy by SF. Any solution truly must be affordable, efficient and effective |

Odunayaw: I think the gatling was used to siphon money.....has any body here seen any? Two in any FOB, mounted on a vehicle would go a long way if stopping BHT attacks, since the days of beeg, i have been clamouring for claymore mines, to be positioned in such a way....you herd BHT into kill zones, and special squads, whose jobs is basically eradication of technicals...... 3 Likes |

Stephandeswardt:Exactly what has always being on my mind whenever I hear of BH attack on any military base, which is typically like a zombie like attack waves upon waves(Strength in numbers), even as a civilian that has never touched a gun I can draw out a superb base defence plan that even ISIS won't penetrate, now the question is, are there no military personnel that can fashion out an almost impregnable base? if civilians with no field experience whatsoever can come up with bright ideas? what is really happening to the Nigerian military for Godsake. I know NA have very bright minds, why are the ideas of these set of people not actionable? I just tire for this country. 21st century warfare is now more of tactical ingenuity, even with limited resources a well formulated plan/tactics can go a long way in keeping the enemies at bay. |
