Hi, this is a tough question I must admit. I wanna believe the RN in question doesn’t have a Bachelor’s degree of any kind?? If yes, then the person can only get evaluated for the LPN category via NNAS, as you need a university degree for RN now. Also if the person wants to solely “work” then he/she must have PR plans in place as its a herculean task to get an LPN employer without having at least a work or study permit / PR and a license.
Getting admission into a Canadian uni would be a better option cuz u’d have a study permit which allows u work and pursue NNAS at the same time, but it’s not a cheap option cuz u’d be paying for tuition and licensure waka. Better option would be to get admission for a Postgraduate nursing course in either Niagara college or one of the colleges in Ontario. Expensive but can grant you PR and licensure in the long run. Best of luck!

I have been following this thread since barbiee created it. I have seen the contributions, i have followed those that commented to learn more on the process involve and i have started reading for NCLEX. After the motivations i garnered from here, i decided to I apply through an agency but it did not work out so i am taking the bull by the horn to initiate the process myself. My main motivation is to leave this country before the Nigeria nursing and it's frustration gets to me. I am interested in applying in state of Texas or any other states with less application hassles.

I am a Registered Nurse/Midwife with a BNsc and i am in a serious dilemma. I obtained my RM qualification before the RN and BNsc and all of these qualifications are obtained from different schools in Nigeria.
So in sourcing for information, i find out that what is CGFNS needed for evaluation is RN qualification which i obtained within 18 months accelerated program.

Herein lies my predicaments..

Will it cover the number of hours needed by CGFNS and BON in all faculties?
Do i need to include my RM in my application, if so how much will it cost?
Do you know of any basic midwives with post basic RN who was able to scale through CGFNS evaluation, the processes they followed and how much was spent?
I have heard of delays in obtaining CES report which may occur as a result of many factors. Quite frankly i do not wish to waste money applying for something that may cost me a great deal of headache. I am gathering some cash for this process and wish to be put through on the step my step process to avoid the delays.

I don’t really know if it’s a good idea but I really advice.

1.....you can apply for a visitors Visa to enable you do any studying less than 8mths. But the embassy won't issue a Visa solely on the fact that you are doing nursing licensure.

2.....you can apply for the masters in public health and try to work your Visa. Study permit rate of success are low but it is very possible.

3......Best bet would be to process your permanent resident Visa through Express entry so you can be present in Canada to cross all the hurdles.

I dont know about the word matron but the word Midwife and O&G nurse refers to 2 different types of nurses in Canada.

An O&G nurse is a RN(BSN) that has done a certification or in hospital traning in the department of O&G. They are most often further broken down into labour nurse etc depending on your certification and area of concentration during training.

A midwife on the other hand may or may not be a RN(BSN). She is a person who has completed the 4year program of Bachelors in Midwifery. She can work in any of the departments midwifery encompasses and may even set up a private practice.

oh I see, I have been in wards and saw Male matrons, sounds super funny. Then we guys are allowed to write the RM exam to qualify as midwife, another funny thing. I think if those names were changed, more males would be encouraged to enroll in the nursing program.

hahahaha ...…………. Nursing is a profession of care givers and women are traditionally the primary care givers in most homes hence the reason for more women in the profession. It could also be attributed to the patriarchic world we live in. That's why men feel its not a "masculine" profession and discriminate against men in the profession. Hopefully we would move away from that perception in the nearest future.
You are a midwife so you should know that the WIFE in the word midwife doesn't refer to the care giver but to the client. they are the" wives" and we are the "mid" ;that is between the wife and their care .

who knows, as the push for more gender neutral vocabularies keep pushing through especially in North America, the name may be changed but not for the reasons you would like it to.

Hi i want to practice nursing in usa but i have a bachelors degree in biological science. If i go to school of nursing here in nigeria would the diploma be valid or its waste of time. I should just do direct entry into the degree program in a university here.. i dont have funds to study abroad im looking for the fastest means cos degree is 5 years while the diploma is 3. Midwifery in USA is a graduate entry job while in Canada she needs to register with their midwifery board which is like a camel passing through the eye of a needle. If you can sponsor her to do an abridgement program in any Canadian university it will be worth it but darn expensive.
Another option is the New Zealand board of midwives... You gotta brace up as studying midwifery before RN is a pain in the ass If you wish to travel out.

Diploma in nursing is valid anywhere in the world. I have a degree in microbiology and I'm currently in a school of nursing here in Nigeria, after bn denied visa several times. So whichever pathway is okay, direct entry would be 4years, since u will be entering 200level directly and its way cheaper. While if u need just RN, its just 3 years and its more expensive, my school fees is close to 200k. So its your choice. Hope I answered your question.

you cant work and school in diploma programme cos no such time but in degree you have plenty time to work depending on school though.

There are people who failed Nursing council exam after 3 attempts and got eliminated but the university gave them the BNSC certificate after oassing the degree exams. Could such people try abroad?
