A lot of Ijebus believe that they are the original owners of Jerusalem and migrated from Sudan after the conquest of Jebu land by King David who gave the conquered territory a Hebrew name.

While Yorubas believe that they descended from Oduduwa, the Jebus don't believe they descended from Oduduwa, even the King of Ijebus

According to Reno Omokri, Ijebus are not originally Yorubas, in fact, he stated there was no word like Yoruba before the 18th Century.

You can read a summary of Reno's work here

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/09/the-ijebu-the-yoruba-and-their-influence-on-the-bible-and-judaism-reno/

If this is true, then we are right to say Lagos is not a Yoruba state going by the fact that some almost half of Lagos are Ijebu land and the other half, Aworis and the Aworis don't see themselves as Yoruba.

According to Prince Adebiyi, a Prince of Awori, Lagos belongs to the Aworis and not Bini or Yoruba that Bini only produces the Oba.

https://thecitizenng.com/lagos-belongs-to-awori-not-bini-or-yoruba-prince-adebiyi/

Professor Imran, another Awori noble but from noble family collaborated this submission.

He claimed like Prince Adebiyi that Aworis owe Lagos land while Bini produces the Oba who pays tribute to the Oba of Bini till the 18th Century when the British stopped that to undermine the authority of the Oba of Bini.

Another interesting thing he said is that most streets in Lagos are either Awori names or a combination of Awori and Bini names like Idunmota.

He equally stated that the Oba is from Bini while the Chiefs are Aworis.

https://punchng.com/awori-own-lagos-land-bini-produce-oba-prof-smith/

I think it is time the records are set straight. Lagos state does not belong to Yorubas.

No be talk am, na the Oba of Benin, the Ijebu King and Princes of Awori land.

Ijebu's are yoruba. All the Sudan stuff is just legend. A group cannot travel from north Africa to near the Atlantic coast without some assimilation. Worse, their dialect is same as their neighbors that is niger-Congo. They do not have a dialect similar to north Africa or the Mediterranean. Like many civilizations, cultures may have mixed, the only thing one can think off is that a conquering group may have conquered the original inhabitants but that group will be close not far off.

Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos and Ogun didn't descend from oduduwa however Ile ife is the home of us all. Oduduwa met some people in Ile ife before he was made king. Not all Yoruba descended from oduduwa. Descendants of oduduwa can be found in Oyo Ile, Ife and other parts of Yoruba land. The point is Ile ife is the home and origin of all Yorubas while oduduwa is our most revered king because he was the king of our root/origin which is Ile ife.
