Council On Foreign Relations Honors Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala For Shaping The World by MrTrend(m): 10:51am On Mar 11, 2019
Nigeria’s Ngozi OKONJO-IWEALA was named by Council on Foreign Relations as one of Six women who helped shape Contemporary World order, in honor of the 2019 International Women’s Day.

“While some international institutions, like the Brundtland Commission, have had women at their helm, others have proved more recalcitrant to female leaders. One such institution, the World Bank, saw cracks in its glass ceiling in 2012, when Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala ran to become its president. After serving terms as Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister and finance minister, and then as a managing director at the bank, she (and Colombia’s Jose Antonio Ocampo) squared off against American physician Jim Yong Kim in the bank’s first-ever contested presidential selection.

Historically, a longstanding transatlantic gentlemen’s agreement has put an American in charge of the bank and a European in charge of the IMF as a fait accompli. Okonjo-Iweala helped to challenge that non-meritocratic status quo with her candidacy. Although unsuccessful, she put up fierce opposition and laid the groundwork for future challenges from non-Americans, especially from developing countries.

With the World Bank presidency now up for grabs once again and the controversial David Malpass as the U.S. nominee, Okonjo-Iweala has garnered attention as a potential alternative.

As the current chair of the board of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and an influential figure on the world stage, she will remain an inspiration for women across the globe regardless of whether she assumes the mantle of World Bank president,” The piece by Stewart M. Patrick read.

that some of the pdp elements were corrupt didnt make okonjo a corrupt lady because she didn't have a share in their loot. She was always being diplomatic in her dealings with them as minister, especially during uncle jona era. Unfortunately, the main people who destroyed Jonathan's government are the APC saints now. I remember when rotimi Amaechi who was the chairman of governors' forum that time pressurised this woman and Jonathan to share the excess crude amongst the governors, which he succeeded doing. Rotimi prevented jona government from preparing for the raining day...now the same people who are now apc members are casting aspersions on Jonathan and his govt ...life! She has my respect any day for the role she played in our debt cancellation when obj was in office, which many have forgotten in a hurry out of sentiments.

She has unmatched value in Nigeria too.

There is no company in Nigeria that would not want her as an executive.
Her contacts alone is unquantifiable.
The question is can you pay her what she is worth?
