Sometimes old things are good. At least our ancient domestic planes have no inherent defects. |

victorazyvictor:u mean when u ordered for something,u are joking with it?.....when u ordered planes, the contract takes years to complete...the ordering isn't immediate.out of 10,2 might be delivered immediately, while the rest could be spread with years of agreement |

According to some aviation experts, Boeing committed a fundamental design error with the Boeing 737 Max-8 iteration of its tried and tested 737 family of commercial passenger jets. The engines of the 737 Max-8 are larger, more powerful engines than the earlier 737 jets, while the undercarriage height was increased to accommodate the larger diameter engines, so as to increase the ground clearance. The upshot of those changes was that the center of gravity (CG) of the Boeing 737 Max-8 moved to the aft (rear) of the aircraft, in comparison to the earlier 737 jets that were fitted with smaller engines. That rearward shift of the aircraft center of gravity was then discovered by Boeing engineers to increase the tendency of the jet to tilt nose-up during flight, which, if left unchecked, could cause the plane to stall, lose lift, and drop to the ground like a rock. In order to instantly counter that increased tendency of the 737 Max-8 to embark on sudden nose-up attitudes, Boeing engineers MODIFIED the automated features of the aircraft, such that any sudden nose-up attitude shifts would be AUTOMATICALLY countered by a nose-down control input initiated by the flight computer, and NOT by the pilot. A manual over-ride switch was also added, such that IF the system malfunctioned, the pilot COULD intervene and take full manual control of the aircraft. It turned out that the weak link in the new automated nose-down feature, was the airspeed and angle of attack indicators that were purpose built to inform the newly augmented automation when to kick in and force the plane's nose down. Those newly installed transducers were subsequently found to malfunction without warning, and thereby trigger the nose-down control input by the computer when there was actually NO need for such a corrective attitude change. The manual switch installed in the 737-Max-8 was thus installed so that the pilot could over-ride the computer as needed, BUT, there was insufficient pilot training on the subject, in several of the airlines that bought the new generation 737. The Lion Air crash in Indonesia 5 months ago, and possibly the Ethiopian Airlines crash two days ago, MAY have both been the result of the computer forcing the plane's nose down very soon after takeoff, and the pilots' inability to over-ride that erroneous control input, in those precious seconds before the plane plunged into a death-dive. Boeing is going to lose a lot of customers for the new 737 because of these two accidents with the 737 Max-8, unless that aircraft is either fitted with multiple redundancy features to augment the airspeed and angle of attack sensors, or alternatively, a comprehensive and monumentally expensive re-design of the whole aircraft is carried out, from the ground up. On the bright side, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner has proved itself to be a work of aviation engineering perfection, with a superb safety record thus far. Any airline looking to stay with Boeing aircraft will be well advised to order the Dreamliner, and NOT the 737, at least for the next few years. |

PurestBoy:So far, both Air Peace and Arik have ordered the 737 Max. But I expect them to cancel those orders, until Boeing fixes the flaws in the aircraft. Nigerian (and other victims) of air crashes are entitled to compensation too. The monetary compensation differed from international flights and domestic flights. |

Hmmm...even with the concerns of this latest development with the Boeing 737 max 8 most of the American Airlines have reported that they so far have no plans of grounding any of this aircraft model. They are claiming that they have so far have not been experiencing any problems with the aircraft. |
