True. The Eastern Cape is the best place for nature lovers because it's naturally beautiful, not artificial. Also the most neglected province, lest we forget. Just sad.
Yes EC is very beautiful. But neglected? No, I don't think so.May be you should elaborate.

KaziKazi - foolish president killing your economy.

The president has been foolish in economic matters too. The effect of his closure of the Citizen was the opposite of what he intended: the shilling’s true rate dipped further. After Mr Magufuli’s row with the paper, capital is reckoned to have fled to Kenya, which Mr Magufuli views as an adversary. Foreign-exchange controls are widely said to be imminent.

Two years ago Mr Magufuli appalled investors by demanding that the country’s biggest mining company, Acacia Mining, a subsidiary of Barrick Gold, based in Canada, should pay the absurd sum of $193bn in back taxes—about four times Tanzania’s gdp—for allegedly undervaluing its gold exports. Acacia’s gold exports have since dipped sharply. Several past and present Acacia officials were arrested last year. The World Bank says foreign investment since 2014 has more than halved. “A lot of us are jittery,” says a businessman in Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital. “But it’s the unpredictability that really scares us.”

Kenya Gov stopped building school infrastructure I think 1989. Gov supplies teachers, capitation for every student for free education, books and school equipment. The parents mostly build the schools.

Education in kenya is national/federal function exception for pre-primary - where devolved gov ran & build pre-primary/nursery schools.

Parents mostly build schools through "Harambee" - fund raising - with help of CDF (Constitutuency Fund that the Member of National Assembly is the patron) - once in a while national gov has stepped in to build model schools - once in maybe 20yrs.

Anyway most public schools infrastructures are either build through fund raising or CDF fund - including buying of school buses.

Example: Kibera's Mbagathi High school built by CDF. Every MP is given around 1-2M dollars annually for such small projects in his constituency.

Most of school buses are also funded by CDF

But the bulk of kenya basic infrastructure was built through HARAMBEE! Our national motto! Our football team is called Harambee stars! The president office is called "Harambee House".

Most of day schools are called "Harambee" secondary schools because they were build through fundraising.

Harambee - is basically Ubuntu - people of certain area need a school - they organize a fundraising and invite guest - they raise money and start constructing the school.

Na wa ooo. Parents build schools in Kenya.

It is grossly neglected in terms of infrastructure & investment. There's really nothing to do in the Eastern Cape because there're no jobs etc. It's a very sad state of affairs considering that we pioneered & were at the forefront of the liberation movement. This is the thanks we get cry

We already spend way too much on education - for national gov to build infrastructure. We are spending about 5billion dollars because we pay our teachers VERY WELL - 3rd best after South Africa and Morocco. We also send capitation for every students, books and school equipment - including laptops & tablets.

Right now CDF (Const Fund) is mostly building the schools - but yes it's parent responsibility to build school infrastructure.

I think now national gov has started budget small money for improving school infrastructure - but it will be a while before kenya gov - county or national - takes that responsibility officially from parents.

Really depend - poor parents in poor regions - cannot afford to buy even ironsheets. I think CDF need to be converted to school infrastructure fund. The rest of what they do is nonsense after Counties took over health (dispenaries) and nursery schools.

Yes Gauteng is having a third of SA GDP. But can you just forget the mining sector how it boosted gauteng's economy since the discovery of gold? EC never had minerals or a good land fur agriculture like that of KZN. So it is not neglected. It was unfortunate.

I agree they need to invest more

Don't forget the strong alumni of the schools that would rally together in rebuilding the schools. It's more than parents I think, the whole community at large chips in and contributes its share in many of the fundraising ceremonies!

That's how it should be,we shouldn't just be dependent on the government for everything!

They are not 'military' grin
That's the NYS-National Youth Service

-About 30,000 youth are recruited annually and trained in various skills (paramilitary, engineering, fashion and design, business management, catering, agriculture, secretarial, plant operation, construction, driving) and, prepared for other national matters such as service in the armed forces, national reconstruction and disaster response. These remain relevant to date-

You Airport link in Abuja carries 400 passengers every day - and it cost 850M dollars. Nairobi is soon getting one - the French just agreed to do it at THEIR OWN COST. We won't spend 850M dollars to carry 400 passengers to the airport.

The Abuja Light Rail System (ALRS) is $1.3 billion because it covers 290km length. The airport link is part of the Phase 1 which is still under construction.

This is totally different from your 2 km airport link.

There is a belief in Tz that the authors of those articles are Kenyans or zitto kabwe. The style of writing is always narrow. They always looking at one side of a coin.

What you are saying is, Tanzania shouldn't fight corruption in mining sector. Tanzania shouldn't gets any tax monies from Acacia! We shouldn't arrest Acasias employees even though they committed crime in the united republic of TZ! A gold mine which opareted for 17 years without paying tax shouldn't be taken to court! Is that what you want TZ to do? Do u know mining affects the environment? How will we mitigate the effects of mining if we don't get a cent from it?

Please come and take your paper( the citizen & mwananchi) We are fed up of them. They are not good for our nation. We don't benefit from their writing! Instead of assisting to root out corruption, the citizen is siding with the corrupter. And know this, It is within this year when we will revoke the license of your paper! We gave them the final warning.

Criticize our president. Do anything to paint him as a bad guy.But the truth is..
He won't drop the work permit costs.
No free movement of labor
We won't allow free movements of tourist vans from Kenya
No east African tourist common visa
Mining companies must use TZ banks at least a part of their cash
We won't share our land with you.go take it from Kenyatta& whites
The trade war which you started will get worse.and it hurts u more
