Hi eveeyone. I have tried creating a CRA account to no avail. Landed September last year and I keep getting the same error message, we cannot proceed with your request. Has anyone had this issue before and how did you go about it. Thanks

You can’t create the account until you have filled your tax and your details are with CRA.

Please who knows a thing or two about Halifax? Will be grateful to connect with people from that end.

What should I budget for 2 bedroom apartment?
How is public transport in the city
Health care?
Crime rates?

Is there a whatsapp group for Nigerians in Halifax?

To have an idea about rent, check kijiji.
I just saw a 3 bedroom apartment in Halifax advertised for $550. This is very cheap. Not sure if this appartement is been rented only for the summer.

As for Health care, it is the same across Canada.

You can always join the city data forum to meet people who live in Halifax and tell them about your plan to move to their city.

Good day people.
So for people that never got a driver's license in Nigeria, what is the procedure like to start driving in Canada? Should I just go ahead and get one done since I am landing in May?
Will I be able to just take the driving test and how soon Will it be possible to start driving?
I am looking to getting a car in winter.
Thank you

Each province in Canada has its own rules and regulations when it comes to getting a driver license.

Maybe you should start by telling the forum where in Canada are you planning to live.

I don't think there's such a restriction on any airline, besides you're not entering Ethiopia and won't be dealing with their customs per se, you're only transiting. I have friends that used the airline and didn't have such issues. You only have to declare funds over 10K usd for most countries you'll be entering.

Hi, I just thought to chip in a little info from what I've gathered so far about Halifax. I'm not in Canada yet but public transport system is great as long as you have your bus pass.

Health care is like every other places in Canada

Crime rates .. I can't say much about this .

And I know there are Nigerians out there in Halifax. They have meetings monthly or so . Check " Nigerians in Halifax" on YouTube .

And apartment depends on what you are looking for, as in your taste... But budget $600 for a 2 bed but mind you, it won't be anything fancy.

To know more about the city, you will find lots of videos on YouTube(Even for apartments)

Sorry but I hope this helps... Good luck to you .

Wow! Thank you so much for this. I've been taking (free) online lessons towards being a software developer and I intend to do a bridging program when I land. I know I still have a lot to learn before I can apply for any developer job but I'll start with these materials tomorrow.

Please are there any bridging programs you can recommend? My destination is Mississauga, Ontario.

Here are some programs that I think you may be interested in:

Bridging programs:

York University Bridging Program for Business

York University's Bridging Program for Internationally Educated Professionals (IEPs) works with small and large local businesses, not-for-profits, professional associations and accreditation bodies to help IEPs transition into a position that matches their education, credentials and experience. We attract candidates from over 30 countries and create an individual, customized action plan for each IEP that is tailored to their goals and career path: http://makemore.laps.yorku.ca/

Humber College-Mobile Systems Integration

http://newtocanada.humber.ca/bridging-programs/mobile.html

.Net Bridging Program

http://newtocanada.humber.ca/bridging-programs/net.html

Humber offers a 20-week bridging program for internationally trained IT professionals with education and experience in computer programming. This program is designed to provide participants with the advanced concepts, skills and knowledge required to work as .NET Solutions Developers

Information Technology Connections

http://www.accesemployment.ca/information-technology-connections

Information Technology (IT) Connections helps internationally-trained IT professionals pursue their careers in Canada. Participants learn Canadian IT-sector standards, terminology, and tips on how to enhance their job search. IT Connections was designed in close collaboration with key stakeholders – employers, professional associations and an academic institution.

Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC)
This organization represents people in the software industry and provides them with training and development opportunities. Be sure the check out the Career Pathways section.

its been on the radio recently, that those transiting Ethiopia or whose final destination is Ethiopia, have to declare their cash exceeding USD 3000. check here https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/01/12/coming-to-ethiopia-you-must-declare-currency-above-3000/

The link you posted still shows that passengers travelling to canada don't need to declare since the transit time is actually less than 3 hours. Infact i can't remember meeting Ethiopian customs when i flew through there.

Transit passengers staying longer than 24 hours in Ethiopia are also required to declare to the Ethiopian Customs any sum of money exceeding the amount or its equivalent in foreign currency, by completing the foreign currency customs declaration form as well.

For Ontario.

As a new driver without a Nigerian license or experience, you would have to start from scratch. Get your G1 first then proceed to G2. You can attend a driving school to get classroom and on-the-road training which gives you the chance to take your G2 test after 8 months (tip: attending a government recognized driving school can reduce your insurance quotes) . If you choose not to attend a driving school, the earliest you can take the G2 test is a year after the G1. If you’re interested in getting a car, you cannot drive with G1, most insurance companies won’t even sell insurance with G1 (there are always exceptions) but you would have to get the G2 before you can drive.

Please how about the international driver's license, is it possible to use that for a while before getting the G1? Someone told me about it but I want to make sure I got the correct information.
