In as much as assists matter, it doesn't tell the whole story. A player can contribute a lot to a match without recording a goal or assist, you might not value him till he gets subbed off. This reminds me of Mikel back when he won the 2nd best player to Messi, he scored just a goal and had 2 assists throughout the tournament, but won the award ahead of young players like Llorente that scored 5 goals and had 2 assists.

So goals and assists don't tell the whole story.

If you add every individual players contribution (goals plus assists) you will get 200% except for own goals

48% of that is a quarter of the total.
