Whiterose21:No it’s not clear. That’s not how it should be and I don’t think that’s how it is. Are you saying if ones name is not on the graduation list such won’t be given statement. How many times do they do convocation in a year. For those that will finish their program in June for example they will have to wait till next year before they can collect certificate/statement |

mikedimeji: I have shared my experience with you. Once your name is published for graduation, you can go for your statement. I finished my programme since 2017 but my name was omitted for graduation, when I applied for statement they said "NO" until my name appear on the graduation list. I stay in Abuja and I know what I'm saying. |

NOUN Graduates 20,799, as 103 students bag first class. The National Open University of Nigeria will be graduating 20,799 students at its 8th Convocation slated for Saturday, 23rd March 2019. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, stated this at a press conference which held today at the University Headquarters. Adamu, who said out of this number, 103 graduated with first class, stated that the recent assent to the NOUN Act amendments is partly responsible for the huge number of graduating students. “No university in Nigeria has graduated this number on a single day”. The VC while addressing the multitude of journalists from different media outlets in the country stated that discussions are already ongoing with relevant agencies to enable graduates attend necessary institutions. Furthermore, he stated that out of 18 programmes which were submitted to the NUC for accreditation, 15 received full accreditation, While 3 received an interim. He also stated that more agencies want respective programmes introduced in NOUN and new programmes/courses are being introduced and billed to start in January, 2020. He briefed the press on the victories which the university has won, which includes the Printing Press which has been built; and will cut down a lot of cost leading to no more outsourcing in the university. He also stated that NOUN is one of the 17 universities selected by the World Bank for courses related to the Internet. NOUN graduates 20,799 students, 103 bag first class By Ashafa Murnai The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) will on Saturday graduate 20,799 students, with 103 of them to be awarded First Class certificates. The event will be the eighth annual convocation ceremony of the university. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Abdalla Adamu, disclosed this at a press conference on Tuesday at the institution’s headquarters, Jabi District, Abuja. Mr Adamu said as a weapon of mass instruction, people are now accepting Open Distance Learning (ODL) as a way and system of self-training. He said following President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent December 7, 2018 to the National Open University Amendment Act, graduates of the university will henceforth participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He said its law graduates can also go to the Nigerian Law School. Mr Adamu said the Act allows the National Open University to operate as other universities in Nigeria. He said NOUN also has the same power and functions and the same administrative structures as other universities, thus eliminating discrimination against its products. “Negotiations have started between NOUN and agencies responsible for NYSC and Law School. We are also willing to accept whatever conditions are given to accept our students in Law School and NYSC.” The vice-chancellor said NOUN gives hope to the hopeless in Nigeria in the pursuit of university education. “It is only NOUN that gives opportunity to prisoners to study, while at the same time serving their jail terms. “Presently, we have more than 400 prisoners who are studying under NOUN. There is also a particular prisoner who was sentenced to life imprisonment, but he is undergoing his PhD studies. Very soon we will engage him as our facilitator.” Mr Adamu also revealed that a former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, receives N40,000 annually as an allowance for being a facilitator of the university. “Mr Obasanjo’s allowance is N40,000 a year and he is happy being our facilitator. He has an office in our Abeokuta Study Centre, where we attached to him two students of Christian Theology.” Copyright ©️ 2019 The Premium T
