adesbaba:If you're not getting hired as a Management trainee in one of these banks, then you must possess a skill relevant to the bank. Easiest way to navigate this is to think about the guys that work in Bank Head offices in Nigeria, what skills do they possess? Risk management, audit, Data analysis/MIS etc. If you're selling yourself as a fund transfer or teller, then you may have to settle for Financial advisor as a means of getting in, and then rising through the ranks. PS: Banking hub + maximum opportunities in this field is Toronto... 1 Like |

mikkyphp: Hmmn...am so grateful for the reply sir....I optioned Calgary cos I felt its cheaper to settle there due to cheaper cost of living ,buying house in future n the likes...compared with Toronto where cost of living is huge.....so I felt probably one could get Finance/bank jobs too in Calgary... As per the management trainee...I have done much work on scotiabank ,CIBC ,TDbank n RBC programs n I saw that they have something like our own graduate trainee programme here where you choose either corporate finance, wealth mgt ,n the likes with trainee fr 12-18 months ....and also internships....how do u see this |

adesbaba: My bro, to be honest the ball is in your court. Increasing your chances in your chosen career or settling for cheaper province, house etc. Dont get me wrong, calgary is a great city with opportunities. Mortgage prices in ontario is on d average 400 -700k on the average, mayne excluding Toronto. This is not dissimilar to Calgary. Please do your research and be more informed so that you can make informed decisions. Weigh the opportunity cost - alternative of higher chances in the financial sector fore gone for doing a job u may not like and/or barely making enough for your mortgage because people told you it is a cheaper city? Is it enough for this trade-off? Do the maths and then draw your priorities...career / cost of living / house in the order that best suits your interest. As per your last question, check for the location/province of such programs when they're advertised, that should give you a clue. I'm not familiar with that tbh. 7 Likes |

Greetings great people..... My first time commenting on this trend. Received my CPR February and have already booked my flight for 15th of May to edmonton, Alberta. Fact is I don't have any relative or friend in Canada and this would be my first time outside west Africa. I am in need of any connection, Nairalanders that could assist me in arranging a mini accommodation and possibly in settling down in Edmonton. I already looked at Airbnb (cost factor) and I feel it would be better I rent an accommodation to minimize the usage of my POF. Any help will be highly appreciated. 11 Likes |

Bros...sorry for the late reply. I actually didn't see the mention. Oil jobs are reducing by the day and people are going back to school to do something that make them retain relevance at their work places. I can't speak for the job experience you have tho.Maybe some of the other seniors can help guide you on that. LOSKYXANDER: |

LOSKYXANDER:It will be difficult to get a job as a geologist. It has never been easy even when oil was booming. Now that there are lots of unemployed experienced geologists, it even makes it more difficult. You might want to keep trying though when you land (Never say Never), or you can try what some other landed geo do if they can't get a geo job: transfer their skills to another industry usually the Civil/Geotech industry. 7 Likes 1 Share |
