Sinach saw the big picture right from the onset. If you wanna learn anything from her, it should be that you should never limit yourself. In all her songs, you can't hear her sing in Igbo language. She didn't see herself as a local Nigerian gospel artiste. She's international! Never limit yourself. Explore the world & be great! Thoughts please, want to read views from others. lalasticlala

Amen, sir. Though I don't think that her success has anything to do with the language she sings in. Frank Edwards sings in Igbo and he's a respected international act. You also have Tope Alabi who almost exclusively sings in Yoruba and has found great success. The secret isn't merely in language but it's in the Word. Sinach, Ada, Frank Edwards, Martin PK etc will tell you just as much.... That combined with hardwork can make a success out of anyone. 4 Likes |

Bilyonaire: Smiles. This is how you understand it, and it's cool. Anyways, it's not good for believers to argue. Well I'm quite sure 100%, if you ask Sinach why she doesn't sing it Igbo language, she's probably tell you what I said. Let's all enjoy the gospel music. God bless you. 2 Likes |

Hmm... 100% sure, did you hear her say so? If not then I don't think it makes sense for you to bring up that number with such certainty. I've heard Sinach talk many times (both on stage and in an interview) and she credited Pastor Chris' teaching for her success. Same as the other BLW artists I mentioned. 1 Like |

echepops: I think there's more to it than mere packaging sir but I can see that you were perhaps trying to propagate a self help/self actualization sort of vibe which you are entitled to. There are many Gospel artists who might have had better packaging, marketing or self belief but have still not attained the same heights as her. |

You cannot compare sinach with those two. Sinach's way maker has 102 million views. No other African song by an African based musician can boast of such feat except Davido's fall. She regularly has more views than even wizkid and most of these circular musicians. Look at our artists, most of their English songs always fare better than their yoruba only or igbo only songs and that's a fact. Bilyonaire: |
Re: This Is The Reason Why Gospel Artiste - Sinach Is So Big by Bilyonaire: 7:31am On Mar 25, 2019 |
Hmm... With the exception of Sinach, how many songs are bigger than Frank Edward's Oghene Doh? I don't mean views on YouTube but rather global appeal. Besides, this thread wasn't an attempt at determining who's the "biggest" Gospel artist but rather what has been behind Sinach's great success so I'm not even sure you're approaching the discussion from the intended point of view. I'm not a Nigerian and have no understanding of any of your indigenous languages and yet I'd still personally prefer Tope Alabi to Hillsong or even Jesus Culture. That alone should be proof that the language one sings in isn't the single determining variable of success. @Omudia11 |
Re: This Is The Reason Why Gospel Artiste - Sinach Is So Big by Omudia11: 7:52am On Mar 25, 2019 |
That you prefer Top Alabi to Hillsong is not a pointer to the fact that she is doing better than Hillsong or Jesus Culture. If you're African or black then it is quite normal to vibe more with afro songs than pop or any other music genre associated with other races. So that is highly subjective and not objective. Oghene doh cannot be said to be an "indigenous language" (for lack of a better word) song as it contains about 98% English and only about 2% urhobo. Have you heard Frank Edwards Ka anyi bulie ft Don Moen? That song is a classic but it didn't do so well nationally and internationally despite the don moen feature simply because it is mostly in igbo. Ekueme is a banger but if that song was in English it obviously could have done marvelously well internationally. I'm not saying "other language" songs don't do exceedingly well but the probability of an English song by a Nigerian or African doing very well is much higher than that of another language. It is no coincidence that Wizkid, Davido, Tekno, Runtown, Patoranking, etc have much more views consistently than Olamide, Phyno and Lil Kesh. Bilyonaire: |

I wasn't seeking to imply that Tope Alabi is comparable in terms of global fame to Hillsong... that would be ridiculous. The point I was making is that someone doesn't live or die by the language they sing in. Talent always shines through. You should go checkout Frank Edward's interview where he recalls the first time he met Don Moen... He says Don Moen told him (Edwards) that he's been following his career and is a big fan of his music. That's coming from an American. The reason why some of the indigenous Gospel songs might be failing is marketing. As anointed and talented as Jesus Culture is, they market their product well. Same goes for Sinach, her management team works very hard to promote her music. There's a reason she has so many views as you've said and it definitely isn't because of using English as most of those views are from Nigerian who don't consider English their 1st language. By the way, have you considered that there are probably more artists that use English than not and yet a Frank Edwards or Tope Alabi is still probably more popular both nationally and on a global scale. PS: I'm only looking at Gospel artists as I don't listen to secular musicians and wouldn't be able to verify any of the things you've said about them. @Omudia11 |

Re: This Is The Reason Why Gospel Artiste - Sinach Is So Big by Omudia11: 3:10am On Mar 26, 2019 |
Frank Edwards sings in English most of the time that is definitely a reason why his music has such appeal internationally coupled with his talent. Of course there artists who use English who are less popular than Frank, but that boils down to talent. You can't be untalented and expect to blow just cuz you sing in English. Let's be honest to ourselves, Sinach is probably the most talented and gifted gospel artist in the world right now, her constant enormous views are reflective of her raw talent and melodious songs coupled with her English language usage, not marketing. If you suck at music, marketing will do absolutely nothing for you. Is sinach the only one that has proper marketers? No, why then do her songs constantly have tens of millions of views? Talent plus English usage is the answer. Let me also correct a notion of yours. Most of her views don't come from Nigeria. That is a very ambiguous misconception. Go check the comments on her songs and you'll know that most of those comments are from foreigners worldwide. Ask yourself, are there no talented non-english speaking gospel singers in the world? Why do you only know the Americans and Nigerian ones? That is a question you should ponder on. Tope Alabi is very talented but by singing in only Yoruba she has already limited herself. Bilyonaire: |

Now you're shifting the goal posts. The OP said the maim reason behind the Sinach's success is that she sings in English instead of 'limiting' herself to Igbo. The mere fact that you agree is that it isn't language choice alone shows that you've applied more reasoning than the OP. Thus, there is no need to further discuss this. Oh, and by the way, the only reason I used Nigerian and American artists was for the sake of the argument (although Hillsong is actually Australian, but I digress). Nothing to ponder on there. I know many artist who can only dream of reaching Tope Alabi's success even though you claim she is limiting herself. And finally, it is a big misconception that most of Sinach's views are from foreigners. Part of her great success is that CE (understandably) does so much to propagate her music. I've been in the comment section and know what I'm talking about. Moreover, like I've already said; Sinach herself has already attributed her great success to what she's learnt under the teaching ministry of Pastor Chris not singing in English. I prefer taking it from the horse's mouth than that of anyone else. @Omudia11 |

Which goalpost have I shifted? That is an undisputed fact unless you want to lie to yourself. Tope Alabi and all the "local musicians" are "local" mostly because they simply do not sing in English. Which gospel artist do you want to compare Tope Alabi to? Even Nathaniel Bassey is planets out of her league. I have only heard one song of hers. Internationally she is not recognized. This is not rocket science at all. You mentioned that Hillsong are from Australia. Please why do you not know any other gospel artist from a non-english speaking country who sings in a language other than English? Do they all have bad Marketing? This is my last response to you, I won't go back and forth repeating myself anymore. Bilyonaire: |
Re: This Is The Reason Why Gospel Artiste - Sinach Is So Big by Bilyonaire: 10:44am On Mar 26, 2019 |
, okay sir, no need to get emotional. You're shifting the goal posts by moving the point of disagreement being that the OP premised that Sinach's success is due to her singing in English and now adding in a different number of variables such as talent, marketing etc. The fact that you only know one of Tope Alabi's songs says more about you than the success of her as a Gospel artist. I won't even humour the ludicrous the "planets out of her league," comment with a response. I mentioned that Hillsong are from Australia because you were (not for the first time) making the ad hominem argument that I only know artists from Nigeria and America. I know plenty of Gospel artists that don't sing primarily in English but didn't see the need to mention them as that would've made for fallacious argument(something you seem to have no qualms about). Moreover, don't mistake the fact that you don't know any to mean that there aren't any successful ones out there. Like I said, I could name quite a lot right off the top of head. Nevertheless, your infantile attempts at holding together a coherent argument in the apparent hopes of proving your intellect were entertaining to see. At least you realized you were just running around circles 'repeating yourself' without really saying anything of substance. Maybe try harder next time . @Omudia11 |

Music itself is a universal language.you don't need to sing in a particular language to become Accepted . As long as what you make in itself is good music. It would be very to dumb of sinach, or anyone else to think her singing in English got her where she is. |
