This is not the solution. The solution is to remove power from the exclusive list to the residual/ concurrent list
Decentralize power and allow local communities or govt. to generate, transmit and distribute power only to pay taxes to the FG.

Very very true. Recently I went to 2 particular community, one of them have steady light meanwhile the other one have light once in a week, when I ask why the other one have steady light, they told me the community managed their own light and pays NEPA.

Snitch on him and your light will go off.

I really can't say, but it's beginning to seem like they've even found a way to tweak the meter reading. I recently moved to a new place, basic home appliances, but in less than a month, we had spent 29k recharging the meter!!

If you are on estimated billing, you should report your landlord to the power company because you are actually paying for the bypass he did. It's because of people like him that the estimated billing customers are paying for energy they did not use.

Me get my own prepaid i buy 10,000 on even if that i cant be using AC anyhow but this nigga go on him AC for hours n u will be like na so u get money reach

I don't know that company or if they sell locally but I know a meter manufacturing company in mowe/ibafo axis that sells locally.
I was amazed by their product line.

If govt allow estimated billing to continue, it will be a disservice to the Nigerian people. Govt should criminalise it like yesterday. Nigerians are made to pay through the nose for service not enjoyed. Discos make more money from estimated billings than actual billings.

These Discos are full of criminal elements, Nigerian way of doing business. You want to charge more for epileptic service? Charge Nigerians more for almost non-existent service?

Make the service available, no one will complain of your cost-reflective pricing proposal.

Lol! Chicken or the egg issue. Most will claim that the reason they can't make the light 247 is BECAUSE of the lack of a cost-reflective pricing.

Not holding brief for them, but it's a complex issue which was flawed right from the outset, and so there are no easy fixes.

I recall readin in one of the daily where virtually all discos refuse to collect more power from the gencos because they don't have the money to pay back. In fact apart from Ikeja and Enugu disco almost all have siad they've been operating at constant loses since inception. Banks also refuse them credit. Yola disco has been even up for sale but no buyer

Thats one of the reasons that DISCOS are scared of metering customers massively...

Majority of customers metered always bypass the meters...

Every common Nigerian is a thief...

A big issue with us Nigerians is the desire to adopt socialist philosophies when it comes to public utilities and services but embrace capitalism when there is money to be made.

We want free education, low-cost health care, free potable water, cheap petrol and I dare say, free electricity. We not only want free services, we demand high quality service delivery not minding the cost of producing such. Because we are so accustomed to fuel subsidies, we now think it's our right to get subsidised electricity which most of us end up wasting. Our government makes it worse in a bid to look pro-people and with the way the vilify private companies who insist on providing services only if the costs are fully covered.

The power sector will never work if government does not allow cost-reflective tariffs or pay for revenue shortfalls where they insist on cheap electricity. The idea that the citizens cannot afford to pay the correct price for electricity is fallacious as a large proportion of Nigerians already spend a lot more powering their homes with generators and unknowingly spending a lot on treating sicknesses which may not be unconnected to the bad air we breathe as a result of generator fumes or lack of proper sleep due to generafor sounds.

On the topic, the Discos are correct that they are no longer responsible for metering as NERC has licensed Metering Assets Providers to take on that responsibility.

cool cool bitter truth

Nope. It's no issue of managing electricity. I didn't just start living in a house today. undecided

I don't leave anything on when I'm out, except my fridge...and this has always been the norm wherever I lived in the past. So why's this one different?

The Disco are getting fat over estimated billing, we are tired of estimated billing. How do they generate bills for a building without a meter? I thing the Disco should be called criminals long ago. In fact, we are suppose to use light for free for the next five years as compensation for how Disco have illegally bills us estimated over the years. Discos are against Prepaid Meter, because of their untruthfulness and ridiculous charges. Thief Disco should be criminalized. We have been paying for darkness years after years. With Prepaid Meter you will be able to manager your income and you will know the amount you want to commit monthly on power (electricity)
