The challenge is with people spamming different pick up threads with the same ads at the same time. It has become so crazy. There was a suggestion then that every "deal alert" should be specifically advertised on the pick up thread where the deal is coming from. Don't post your deal alert from Chicago on California thread, it doesn't make sense at all. It's basically free to open a thread on NL and I know some deal hunters that have their dedicated thread.

Lols...I can see ppl creating their own threads. Now they're forced to do the needful.
Can't y'all emulate perezuche. How hard is it to create your own thread to market your stuffs.. dealhunters and buyers inclusive.

It's actually difficult and impractical both for buyers and sellers. What's best would be a general market place for pickup deals.

Nairaland is wide as the sky and freely open to everyone.

Let every deal hunters, Pickers and OP with Sales item open their own thread up.

We always tend to abuse an opportunity.

#Peace.

What IF THOSE THREAD NEVER EXISTED, WON'T WE STILL SELL. We adjust in Real Time. Petrol was once N65.
Now we are buying at its present price.

We will adjust to the new Rule.

It's called "localization". There's a reason spare parts sellers congregate in Ladipo and cloth sellers are all over Balogun. There's an unconscious ease for buyers and sellers when there's a one-stop location for buying and selling. Buyers do not want to be chasing sellers around nor do sellers want to be chasing buyers around wasting precious time. Most sellers prefer posting on pick up threads because they know thats where their target buyers are and vice versa.
If you force each deal hunter to open their own thread, they'd end up losing significant visibility and as a buyer, how many deal hunters can any single person really keep track of? What you'd end up achieving is a front page littered with individual threads from deal hunters with each one endlessly bumping their thread to the front page in their desperation to sell off their deals, and buyers with individual adverts asking for specific deals in the front page. This is already happening but it'll only multiply with your move and technology market homepage will become technology offerup market page.

spare parts sellers congregate at ladipo not in China, UK or wherever they get their parts from and they don't congregate at the ports where the goods come in through, same with Balogun cloth sellers, hope you understand?

No I don't understand. Your analogy is faulty because ports aren't market places and buyers and sellers would do their business in China or UK if it were practical to do s. I'm all for stopping selling deals on pickers threads but you'd also have to create an alternative market place for buyers and sellers otherwise the only thing you'd have ended up doing is digging a hole to cover a hole - make pickers thread clean then clutter Technology Market Place homepage. Silly IMO.

Oga dragnet i think there a lot sense in wesley80 input,, you can do away with the Ladipo analogy but please go through the later part of his comment..
I am not a deal hunter but what he said is just pure psychology of the buyers.. also see the bigger picture of defacing the Tech Market section with pickup threads..
.
One thing I'd like to talk about also is each deal hunter having individual thread will no only reduce their reach, and what of potential DEAL HUNTERS who has no reputation yet and wants to come into the game..?? Who will buy from them if they just open a thread to sell stuffs.??
.
I sincerely think Closing the thread is the Right thing done in the wrong way.. Why not DEFINE spamming when it comes to pick up threads and ban those who spam directly.?
Why should pickers be the one responsible for their actions.? Not like the forum has given them the power to stop anyone from their thread..

Leave Pickers out of this, have they complained to you?

I don't think I need to start spelling out what is spamming anymore because it is glaring and subtle warning & complaints have been made before now.

My analogy is faulty? or you're merely not being sincere, what is the use of the section called "Technology Market" and also "Phone/Internet Market" ?
and you want all ads to be put in just a thread when no fee is being charged to open and manage your own thread, and deal with your customer complaints on your thread rather than soiling the pickup thread with unnecessary posts.

I'm still waiting for resolutions by the stakeholders, the pickers, buyers, sellers and dealhunters, reasonable resolution not selfish ones.
People seem to be too lazy to open and manage their own threads to advertise.

I'm not sure why you'd choose to question my sincerity over this but if you look closely at what you're advocating, there are at least 2 costly consequences that you're sure to create outside littering the Technology Market page.

Firstly, deal hunters are sure to lose out significantly as visibility for their goods among their target customers would reduce drastically except a part of their daily routine would now be bumping threads every now and then. Yes, some have already built strong loyalties but you'd agree that a part of business is attracting new customers. This deal hunting is a FULL TIME job for some folks trying to keep their head above water in a bad economy.

Secondly, you'll end up breeding lots of scammers. With a single thread, sellers and buyers are known and it is easy to identify anyone that doesn't fit in. In a closed community, shady characters can be easily identified and called out so everyone is mindful of their reputation. Also, For buyers and even potential deal hunters, the old threads have helped everyone learn the ropes and avoid a steep learning curve that could easily have ended up being costly.

These are the potential problems you could create by forcing everyone to establish individual threads. All for what? So two or three threads can be "cleaner"? Is it really worth it I ask? The old saying that if it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind. I've been here long enough to see these things play out but you're the boss; Your turf, your rules.

I'm still not in support of deal hunters opening threads as it would aid/encourage scam.

What can be done?

1. Repeated ads must be stopped.
2. Pictures on an ad should not be more than 2.
3. No need for unnecessary spacing in your ads.
4. Items already in Nigeria should not be advertised on a pick up thread again.
5. A particular ad should not appear more than once in 24hrs and anytime after that, deal hunter should only quote with the word still available without picture.

I questioned your sincerity because I didn't really create any analogy, I only further expanded the analogy you made and you called it faulty.

The issue isn't just about dealhunters posting deals so don't limit it to that. Immediately I closed those threads, I got feedback from people, many people already highlighted the issues so don't turn around trying to put the blame on nairaland, what is responsible for the closure is clear, the real culprits haven't been responding.

6. A particular ad should not appear on all the pick up threads. If you check these threads properly, you'd notice they're littered with same ads from same people, it's very tiring to wake up to hundreds of notifications from all these threads with same ads on all of them (because of this, I only click on posts of the people I'm following to avoid seeing irrelevant posts).

Seconded.

Also, when a deal is gone, an easy modification with a stroke function should suffice instead of quoting & saying Sold again and again, lengthy questions regarding deals should only be done via d provided phone number either by a call/chat

One very good solution to this spamming problem by deal hunters is let there be only one thread for deal hunters.

If them like make Dem repeat their ads one million times, nobody cares.

I repeat just one thread for all of them

Deal Alert
iPhone 7 Plus 32gb
Factory unlocked
Space blue wink

TLC 12222222k
Let me know if you need

Oga that alone can’t cause spamming

The issue I see here is people posting items in their house the will write up the whole specification google has to give for that particular item and still post like 3 to 5 pictures of the item the will post office address and all that and still be quoting it SA avaliable every time

Which is not good it

Just one thread for all deal hunters is a good solution.
Posting deals every minute will help keep the thread at the top of technology market section.

You can even tell dragnet to make the thread sticky.

Once the thread is created and you guys start posting there, deal buyers will have no option than to go check the thread.
It's now up to deal hunters to build up their reputation so prospective buyers will trust them
Trust me, it will work.

Wildchild1 suggestions makes more sense. In addition, deal hunters should post deals only on the particular device pickers thread and not on all threads. Remove all nonsense spacing and irrelevant stories. Pictures to be sent to prospective buyers via WhatsApp. Also no bumping of ads more than say twice in 24hrs. If your ad is juicy enough, you need not bump at all sef
