Sorry it's your ALMIGHTY BUHARI THAT IS THE BASTARD HERE..
Didn't you read where it was stated in the write up that that dam was abandoned by subsequent military administrations after the late Shagari? And who overthrew Shagari if I may ask you.

Wow they should let the state finish the project. Nigeria abonded this project 30 years. The video claims the dam could produce 1 million tons of fish and potentially cover 25% of nigeria fish needs. That would be amazing.

The dam was planned to generate 37.5 MW of electricity, to supply water to local communities and to Lagos and to irrigate 12,000 hectares of land. Built in 1982/1983, work on the dam was abandoned by subsequent military governments

Which military government came in 1983 after the construction of the dam? The abandonment started from there so start ya blame from dia too.

The Ikere Gorge Dam is a major earth-fill dam in Iseyin local government area of Oyo State in the south west of Nigeria on the Ogun River. Reservoir capacity is 690 million m3. The dam was initiated by the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo and started in 1983 by the administration of Shehu Shagari. The dam was planned to generate 37.5 MW of electricity, to supply water to local communities and to Lagos and to irrigate 12,000 hectares of land. Built in 1982/1983, work on the dam was abandoned by subsequent military governments. A report for the UN in 2004 said that no irrigation had taken place so far, but efforts were being made to implement one of the five planned irrigation projects. The project was based on the sprinkler system which is difficult to manage and requires that the farmers be trained. (Wikipedia)

Very unfortunate, the dam has since abandoned with no work started on it. Reports have it that all equipment necessary for generating the hydro power for the benefit of the citizens are deployed there already over past two decades and can take just only 3 months for completion.

The dam can provide over 1000 direct job through fishing. The dam if judiciously use can serve as irrigation for over 12,000 hectares of land among others uses. See the video for more uses of the dam if resurrected.

We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria, Oyo state Government & Ministers of Power, work and Agriculture to see to this.

Many thanks to you open. These are information l love to read and thank you for bringing it to front page.

Waoooo.
God, why are we so blessed like these?
Why not transfer all these blessing to developed nations that can maximise these potentials. All l could see around the dam is green. See how this project will prevent rural to urban migration.
You can imagine how many projects like this abandon all over the country for decades. Expensive Power equipment neglected in Ports. This government should pls keep working and complete abandon probject. They should forget about starting a new project irrespective of what opposition party says.Nobody cares about the party that complete the project, all we want is better life.
Hmmmmmmmm.

The incoming governor of Oyo state in the person of Mr Seyi Makinde should as a matter of urgency partner with the FG to resuscitate the dam, the people around the dam would be very grateful to him once the dam is put to use.

Isn't Ikere in Ekiti state?
OP made a mistake, it's actually "Okere" not "Ikere". And it's located in oke Ogun area of Oyo state (iseyin).

I weep for Nigeria.....the same Buhari led administration that stopped the Lagos metro rail project in 1983.......the problem with Nigerians is that we forget to easily. I really hope this new Oyo state government takes this up as much as it's a federal project.

The last time I visited the Dam i weep for this country, the deplorable state of the equipments put in place already or how wasteful the dam just be for years among many things like that. And the fact that it's almost in finishing state make the situation worse ....

NIGERIA should revamp all dams to boost electricity, but trust me the equipment there would have varnished.
