Just this week, democracy had its first victory against vote-buyers. This was when Justice Sa’ad Moh’d of the Gombe State High Court committed a councillor in Bolari East Local Government Area, Gombe, Ishiyaku Garba, to six months in jail for vote-buying. Garba has been in the dock on three counts bordering on bribery. He was apprehended by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who acted on intelligence reports that the convict at Bolari Polling Unit 0077 in Gombe State during the presidential and National Assembly elections.
