How did dr manhattan join dc?

I think he came to the DC Universe during the new 52 era.

In the DC rebirth comics Dr Manhattan said he wanted to explore the other parts of the universe and maybe create life and that is how he made the new 52 era.

P.S Watchmen is also DC comics but wasn't Canon to the DC Universe until the end of rebirth when Batman found the doomsday logo.
