Hmmm.... I think this is unprofessional for a VC.... airing your own dirty laundry. They are lacking management skills. In any group... everyone would not follow the rules... that should be expected... and disciplinary plans should be in place to make the rule breakers correct themselves. He is about physical punishment/ physical prevention..... as in locking latecomers outside so they can learn not to be late..... locking the dorms so they will come to class.... his mind is locked into physical solutions to problems.I can bet my life he soooo wish he can be allowed to cane offenders.
Break the rule once.... one on one talk with the student... put on probation..maybe 2 months..... break probation... 2 weeks suspension...return... 6 month probation ... break that... expelled.

On spending money to repair property not theirs.... why is the amount spent not deducted from the rent?

My prof. God is your witness, I am really shocked that parents behave like this, it is mostly single parents or women that have over powered their husbands. Don't lower the standard, the parents can withdraw their spoilt child. They have forgotten that one day they will pass away to eternity that spoilt child will destroy all they have laboured for. In Nigeria law school, hostels are closed by 9 am and opened after lectures. Which parent date challenge that, even all the big men that are students can't disobey it. Pls sir never relent.

ACU by Anglican are three of the hardest universities to excel academically. I helped remove a family member from Lautech and put him in Bowen. The guy legit went down academically at Bowen.

There is more academic integrity in the average private university than the average state uni.

Now there is more academic integrity in all faith based universities than all federal and state universities in Nigeria. Schools like Bowen, Covenant, Al hikmah, etc

Academic integrity goes in the following ways
1) Never Inflate grades of students
2) Never Deflate grades of students
3) Never receive sex or money for awarding marks

And when you go down to it public schools are the biggest offenders...

Prof has won my admiration. ACU is a place you can confortably send your wards.Good and condusive academic environment.I had an encounter with him in my third semester MBA exams in ACU.He came into the hall as we were about to start exam in Crowther Hall.He prayed for us and released prophetic words upon us.He words were mind uplifting and inspiring.Honestly, parents should allow him to help mould and bring out the best in their children.

Most private universities are grade buying universities. But it seems this VC wants to make ACU an exception. This is calling a spade what it is.

I think you misconstrued what the VC is saying. We live at a time where parents have already destroyed the life of their wards before sending them to faith-based institutions to be rebranded and miraculously turned them to expert thinkers.

I make bold to say that our parents have failed this wayward generation because many of them choose to the easy options when it comes to children upbringing. In those days, nobody forces you to read and carry yourself well in school because you know you represent your family wherever you find yourself. But the case is different now.

A parent came crying in the spring of 2009 in covenant University that he hasn't seen the child at home since the school went on recess and it was discovered that he failed 90% of his courses because of his wayward lifestyle on campus. The parents gave him the sum of N150k monthly as upkeep....when even the then Dean of students affairs don't earn anything close to that monthly. He comes to school to do shakara with a 3k USD wrist watch and this is a child who hasn't earn N1 all his life.

Parents who can't comply with the school rules should withdraw their wards. Students buy marks in most federal and state universities but the case has reach a crescendo in private universities. Money can do it for boys while the girls pay with their bodies.

As much as covenant University in particular incurred Billion of dollars to improve on the facilities, there is a high-level of gross indiscipline and hypocritical lifestyle amongst those who made the rules and meant to enforce them. A case in point is Muyiwa Fadugba's case; a sexual predator made Registrar. Don't be deceive, it cut across almost all the department in that school most higher institutions in Nigeria.

The University management in their hypocrisy promoted a half baked, first fruit to spite people who should tutor the so called leaders of tomorrow. The results are there for all to see.

You may have all the money to buy the best equipments and build a state of the art structures everywhere, THEY DON'T SELL MORALS IN THE MARKET.

You are funny, so Oxford VC and Harvard VC letters are the yardsticks for any VC to write good letter. Mahatma Gandhi once said "Silence becomes cowardice when occasion demands speaking out the whole truth and acting accordingly". I don't see anything wrong in the letter, he only said gospel truth about the institution and he has already given them solution to minimize students failure but the parents are not buying it, there's none so blind as those who will not listen.

Well this is not Harvard or Oxford and he is dealing with issues that are not known to Harvard or Oxford so you comparison is out of place. While I quarrel with the level of control exercises over students in mission owned universities, the truth remains that if you want to be part of a community you have to abide by the rules of that community.

A lecturer once told me if you're too friendly with students (one of the mistakes of this vc) you will be insulted,disrespected and taken for granted (that's why they can pour trash on the vc)

But if you're firm and you let the students know that you don't take nonsense, they'll know what to bring to your table

Now let me give you an assignment.Go and do a purposive observation in universities. Observe lecturers that are friendly with students and allow them play with them vs the one that is very firm and isn't friendly with students. You realize that students will begin to have no regard for the friendly lecturer and he will be very prone to insults, rudeness and disrespect from students

Who says they didn't write this kind of thing in the past? Secondly, ivy league colleges are grade inflation centers - i.e. if your parents are wealthy, A+ is guaranteed. If you doubt me, google College scam.

Finally, our secondary school - sorry, University system where electives are compulsory is absolute nonsense.

BRO, I served in that school and I can tell you most of their ladies are sex objects! Both male and female have a rented apartment in town just for sexual escapades! They leave the school on weekends to those apartments with their partners in crime. In fact when you see their girls as a guy, you will surely feel a strong thing down there! I just have to drop in on this thread when I saw the title. I had my service year at d university last year.
I understand that d contents of this acclaimed letter is not of d highest standard but I can tell u that the VC is a great academician whom by my rating would rival the world's best standards.
This man is the best u could think of when u are concerned with; promoting academic excellence, alleviating moral decadence and enriching societal values. I always wondered while still working in d school, that why can't we promote people of his standards to the helm of affairs in this country. I can tell u that Nigeria is truly blessed in human resources but it's unfortunate that the system will not allow God fearing individuals to thrive.
As the man will always says, "I can't wait to resume back to my work at LASU", I pray he finish his tenure peacefully and I can assure u that these ungrateful parents (students, staffs and the church community) will beg to have him back.
