Many problems we face have easy solutions, government in this country just isn’t innovative or open to new ideas.

NAF DESTROYS TERRORISTS’ HIDEOUT, NEUTRALIZES HIGH VALUE TARGETS AT MAGARI IN NORTHERN BORNO STATE

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has significantly degraded an Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) Terrorists’ Hideout and neutralized some of its leaders and fighters at Magari on the fringes of Lake Chad in the Northern part of Borno State. This was accomplished in an air interdiction mission conducted yesterday, 1 April 2019, following credible intelligence reports indicating that some senior ISWAP leaders arrived the settlement on Friday, 30 April 2019, along with some of their fighters.

Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions conducted over the weekend confirmed increased level of human activities in the settlement with a prominent ISWAP flag observed near 2 compounds in the settlement indicating the presence of high level leaders of the Sect. Accordingly, 2 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft, supported by an ISR platform, were dispatched to attack the identified compounds within the settlement.

Overhead the target area, some terrorists were observed in the vicinity of the compounds. The bombs from the 2 Alpha Jets recorded direct hits on the target compounds resulting in destruction of several structures, which were seen engulfed in flames. Several of the terrorists were also neutralized in the process.

The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its operations against the terrorists in the Northeast.

Nigerian Army uncovered an illegal Arms manufacturing factory in Benue State....

Personnel of military spike operation in Benue State, code named Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS , have uncovered an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Logo Local Government Area of the state, arrested two suspects and recovered different calibre of fire arms.

Among the suspects was a telecommunications engineer, who claimed he trained in arms manufacturing in Mauritania five years ago.

Also recovered from the gang were arms manufacturing tools and firearms at various stages of fabrication.

Parading the suspects, yesterday, at OPWS Base in Makurdi, Commander of the operation, Major-General Adeyemi Yekini, said his troops tracked the gang after a tip-off and four weeks of surveillance.

According to Yekini, “about five weeks ago, the headquarters of OPWS got information from our local sources about activities of some weapon manufacturers operating between Ayiin in Logo and Ukum local government areas of the state.

‘After due diligence by the intelligence unit, within four weeks of surveillance, we were able to track the culprits to their location and had them arrested. We are still on the trail of members of the gang who are currently at large, but no matter how they run we will get them.”

Corroborating Yekini, Sector 2 Commander of OPWS in charge of Logo and Ukum local government areas, who led troops to arrest the gang members, Captain Samuel Okenarhe, said but for the quick intervention of the troops, one of the suspects could have been lynched by an angry mob in the community.

According to him, “we rescued him and he later took us to Tinenune village in Ukum Local Government Area where the two factories were located. His other accomplice initially ran away but he was later apprehended.”

AK-47 goes for N350,000, pistol for N50,000
Confessing to the alleged crime, Cephas Ati, who was arrested alongside Mnsuga Terhila, claimed he was arrested with two AK-47 rifles, explaining that he started the business two years ago when he came back to Nigeria from Mauritania after he mysteriously lost all he had to witchcraft.

Ati said: “l have been in the business for about two years now. I lived in Europe and started this arms business when I returned from Europe two years ago but I lost everything to witchcraft and I had to start all over again.

“I had my training in Mauritania. Each of the AK-47 goes for N350,000 while pistols go for N50,000 depending on the quality. In the two years I have supplied a total of 16 AK-47 rifles to different clients.”

The suspect claimed he did not own any of the workshops “but I know a manufacturer, his name is Tavershima Vande.”

Reacting, Chairman of Benue ethnic leaders, on the auspices of Mdzough U Tiv, Omi Ny’ Igede and Ochetoha K’ Idoma, Chief Edward Ujege, said they outrightly condemned any act of arms trading and manufacturing in the state.

“All we are seeking is peace in Benue State and we may not enjoy that peace if people are dealing in arms in our state. Therefore, we condemn any of such acts in our state,” Ujege said.

Also reacting on behalf of the state government, Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the governor, Mr. Terver Akase, urged that justice takes its course in the matter.

Akase said; “Governor Ortom through his amnesty programme had insisted that Benue State should be rid of arms of any kind. Therefore, people who are not authorised by law to carry arms have no reasons whatsoever to own arms at all.

“So the government has been pushing this narrative and if anyone is caught with arms, the law should take its course because this government abhors gun-running by any individual as far as that person has no backing of the law.

“So whoever is involved, the law should take its course and we urge security agencies to do proper investigation in the matter and let justice be served.”

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE, OUR MAIN PARTNER IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA - CZECH AMBASSADOR

The Czech Republic has expressed its interest to strengthen bi-lateral cooperation with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in the areas of training, aircraft acquisition and equipment maintenance. This was made known during the visit of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr Marek Skolil, to Headquarters Nigerian Air Force today, 2 April 2019, where he remarked that Nigeria and the NAF were the main partners of the Czech Republic in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Speaking further during the visit, Ambassador Marek traced the cordial bi-lateral ties between both countries to the 1960s when the Czech Republic supplied the L-29 Delfin aircraft to Nigeria, which, among other newly-acquired aircraft, were employed by the NAF to provide necessary air support for the effective prosecution of the Nigerian Civil War. He noted that, over the years, the Czech Republic had continued to provide training and technical support first for L-29 aircraft and later for its successor, the L-39ZA aircraft, whenever called upon. Ambassador Skolil expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Czech technicians who were working in Kano were adding value to the overhaul activities on the NAF's L-39ZA aircraft. He emphasized that these were all being carried out based on his country’s commitment to providing great value for money whilst ensuring strict quality control mechanisms. The Ambassador reiterated the determination of the Czech Government to continue providing the needed technical support for the reactivation and overhaul of the NAF L-39ZA fleet. He further added that the next phase of the collaboration would entail the upgrade/switch to the new L-39NG aircraft, which he said his Government was poised to embark upon in order to considerably enhance the NAF’s efforts to tackle current and emerging security challenges in the country. “The L-39NG is indeed an aircraft for the Next Generation but we also see it as a good omen of our cooperation with Nigeria”, he said.

Responding, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, expressed his delight in receiving the Ambassador in his Office while appreciating the Czech Government’s support and cooperation to Nigeria and the NAF right from the time of the Nigerian Civil War. He said he was happy to report that the Czech technicians, who were working in Kano with NAF engineers and technicians on the reactivation/overhaul of 3 L-39ZA aircraft, were doing an excellent job, despite the current high temperatures. He highlighted that upon completion of the life extension of these 3 aircraft, the Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) on the aircraft, which is provided for in NAF’s 2019 Budget, would commence as soon as the budget is passed and funds released. He noted that this would pave way for the eventual transition to the L-39NG by acquiring the necessary engines and avionics. The CAS further identified other areas of partnership to include basic and tactical pilot training as well as communications information systems. Accordingly, he revealed that he would be sending a team of NAF officers to visit the Czech Republic to work out modalities for the various training programmes as well as identify other areas of collaboration in aircraft and communications systems maintenance. Air Marshal Abubakar added that he was glad that both nations were committed to moving the existing cordial, mutually beneficial relations to even greater heights.

Awesome! You can see the brackets right above and below the door where the gun pods and rocket launchers go. However, isn't this supposed to come with a FLIR camera pod as well or they just weren't installed yet?
