What if the update still has error, to test it, the jet will still fly, who will fly it for testing?
they don't test jets with human beings,,they do with robots..the jet will flawn directly from control room with a system...

Don't you know after building a particular jet series,,its been intentional crash to know the impact ,,and safety level..

Didn't you read!?. It was a software error and not the pilots. They followed all the instructions.

Now, ladies and gentle men, let the law suits begin.
SIRTee15:
Boeing's CEO admitted on Thursday that a failure of its software was one of the causes in the recent deadly 737 Max jet crashes.

Dennis Muilenburg said a new software update would prevent future incidents.

"It's our responsibility to eliminate this risk," Muilenburg said in a video message on Thursday. "We own it, and we know how to do it."

Muilenburg's acknowledgement of Boeing's responsibility came after the release earlier Thursday of a preliminary report on the March 10 crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, which killed all 157 people on board. In the report, Ethiopian investigators said the jet's pilots followed all safety procedures before the crash.

Though the pilots followed procedures, the report said false sensor readings activated the jet's automatic system against stalling, known as the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, or MCAS. The jet nose-dived minutes after takeoff, similarly to when Lion Air Flight 610, another 737 Max, crashed last October and killed all 189 people on board.

The crashes prompted airlines and international regulators to ground their 737 Max jets, and pilots accused Boeing of failing to train them on the MCAS system.

On Thursday, Muilenburg said a software update would be ready to implement within weeks.

"This update, along with the associated training and additional educational materials that pilots want in the wake of these accidents, will eliminate the possibility of unintended MCAS activation and prevent an MCAS-related accident from ever happening again,"

He said Boeing remained confident in the safety of its jet.

"When the Max returns to the skies with the software changes to the MCAS function, it will be among the safest airplanes ever to fly," he said.

A report on the cause of the Lion Air crash has not yet been released, and Muilenburg stressed that any air crash was the result of a chain of events. He added that he hoped Boeing would again earn the trust of air travelers.

"We at Boeing are sorry for the lives lost in the recent 737 Max accidents. These tragedies continue to weigh heavily on our hearts and minds, and we extend our sympathies to the loved ones of the passengers and crew on board Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302," he said. "All of us feel the immense gravity of these events across our company and recognize the devastation of the families and friends of the loved ones who perished."

This crash would have been avoided if the pilot simply deactivated the MCAS and flew the plane manually.

Other pilots had reported similar problem with the 737 and all they did was turn off the MCAS and flew the plane manually till it leveled again.

Why both the Ethiopian and Lion Air Crew didn't think to switch off the MCAS is still mysterious. The simple answer is that they didn't even know it existed to know to turn it off when the plane was nose-diving.

Boeing included a new safety feature in their 737 jets and somehow decided to not completely disclose it.

flights are not test with normal humans, its don with robots,,and its been flown from the control room with virtual pilots,to check the crash impact and every other installations,.

So it wasn't the Ethiopian pilot's fault afterall, whereas, some of you were claiming ''it must have been pilot error'' that caused the crash.

One nairalander even said something about ''Africans and incompetence'' etc etc.

Families of the deceased should sue Boeing for $100 trillion. Next time, they will hire better programmers that won't turn their aircrafts to flying coffins. angry

hahahahaha its not really the programmers fault but rather a control algorithm or what we aptly call control law malfunctioning. Its within the purview of the control engineers who applied different control theory to come up with a defining control law that guides the flight. The programmers only implement that law in software.
I remember my very interesting thesis during my MSC on Auto pilot where The three most important flight motion have to be controlled vise the Pitch, the Roll and the Yaw. I have to apply the scariest of control theory especially optimal and stochastic control grin. The control law I got was very nonlinear grin
I solved several descrete Recati multidimensional matrix equation sotey I nearlly run mad grin

Much respect to control engineers cool

Each of the victim's families should get nothing less than $555,000 = N200 million naira.

Boeing should immediately start paying compensation & damages to families of all the deceased persons.

Sir.

Boeing can compensate the whole African population without feeling a damn thing. They're the biggest exporter in the world's largest economy, had a net profit of over $10b last year.

They should be made to pay the price. Just like their last scandal, The CEO should go. The director of FAA should go too for trusting Boeing so much that they got numerous regulatory waivers. Anyways, we have to appreciate China and the EU whose actions gave credence to the African voice.
