ednut1: 1.Saudi Arabia has less than 15 million people, and produces far more oil than Nigeria does. (Nigeria also has 200million) 2.Saudi Arabia has no significant indigenous industry, relies heavily on importation, and foreign technical staff. Nigeria could do better...but the oil money we earn is not enough. We need oil at $140 per barrel to run a budget without deficit. 14 Likes |

chukwuibuipob: T'would be good if NNPC was sold, and fuel subsidy removed...so that marketers can set price of fuel, profits can be made, investment increases...and refining capacity increases, with fall in fuel prices in ten years. I don't like PDP...but for once Atiku was right about NNPC. If we did not liberalise GSM...we would still be struggling to make calls and do home internet. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

seguno2: where is Nigerian indigenous telecom(NITEL) liberalised by syphoning Nigerians with south African network with *1 when on each Recharge..... even the buhari that met energy minister in Saudi instead of discussing how to give us constant power supply,he is talking about oyel.how can u think of stabilizing oyel price with mere discussion we re getting no where without electricity... even God himself the first thing he created was light,nd Nigeria is trying to beat the record to move forward in darkness.... I laugh at Nigerian yoots 8 Likes 2 Shares

frank202012: 1. NITEL failed because they did not adapt fast enough (Still exists by the way, as an internet service provider...something they should have done) Also its privatization was botched. If NITEL had been run properly (and they got into GSM with MTEL...which had cheap rates compared to MTN and econet)...by now it could have been a big player. 2.If you want constant power supply, you have to stop government from setting prices for power. The current pricing structure means DISCOS can collect only 30% of the actual cost...while govt pays remaining 70%. DISCOS cannot make profits, investment cannot come in, and GENCOS can't get enough money from DIScos to pay gas companies. But because Nigerians like cheap power too much..... Anyway, good we are metering the whole country...let's see if this improves revenues. 4 Likes 1 Share |

seguno2: The problem with we Nigerians is whenwe talk about our economy, it means time to share money...so that we can import stuff. Another issue is that we Nigerians subside everything. Power sector is supposedly private now, yet cannot earn enough money because the previous government put in place a 'subsidy' which makes it difficult for DISCOS to make a profit, which makes it hard for GENCOS to pay for gas ...which affects investment in power...and prevents more foreign investment from coming in...because why would you want to start a business in a place where government is setting the prices? Bad economics. Same thing with fuel. Government sets prices, and as a result petroleum companies cannot make enough profits to invest in improving things like refining capacity. Switzerland...government does not set prices of goods and services. Government does not waste billions on subsidies. Government allows people to set their price, and make their profit. Investors flow in.....development results. But in Nigeria, we all want to be capitalists under a socialist system. There is no such thing. It is eeither 100% capitalism, or 1005 socialisim. So, either we get rid of our subsidy habit, and government setting prices for everything...and see development, or we keep on using oil money...that isnt enough and we know it...to keep on funding subsides, and keep on taking loans to keep up with the Saudis...whose economy is so vulnerable despite appearances. We better face facts. 7 Likes 1 Share |

anonymous1759: How much were phones, SIM cards, call rates etc when Obasanjo and Atiku liberalised the telecoms sector in 2000? How much are these things now? Keep up with the subsidy of consumption that we cannot afford and see as poverty and illiteracy grows. Choices have consequences. 2 Likes |

seguno2:The only thing Atiku and his boss in corruption did to our Telecom sector was unbundled the best telecom company in Africa (NiTEL) sold it's assets to themselves and cronies at ridiculous cheap prices. This is 2019 EVERY country on Earth has a mobile network carrier, internet and smartphones. If they were any good, they'd have transformed NITEL into at least an Etisalat (it's state owned by UAE) or ensure MTel is still competing with (or even ahead of) MTN. So my dear all those two crooks oversaw was destruction. 2 Likes 1 Share |
