I moved into my new home which is a newly developing area some months ago. I am surrounded by a neighbor who owns practically 85% of the buildings in the street. Being the first to move into the area, he made the connections from some street near by and recently bought a transformer to power his estate( he also owns other buildings in the street) recently he decided to power the rest of his houses to the newly bought transformer because the source we connected from had to disconnect our street due to low voltage, but he is demanding that I should pay 300k before my building can be connected. As I'm making this post, my house has been disconnected.

I appreciate his effort in developing the street and for also powering the area, but what I can't understand is why will he have to charge me that high for connection fee? Does anyone have the right to charge for connection fee apart from the Distribution Companies?

Your suggestions on how to go about this situation is welcomed.

He might have spent heavily to have those things installed all you can do is to ask for a reduction as he will still make money from others.

Of course I accept the fact that he spent a lot getting the transformer to the street, but 300k?

A neighbor who could afford it already paid 200k, he wouldn't even power the guy except he paid the complete money.

That amount is too much. This is something close to exhortation. I think you should Involve authorities from the power company or why not use whatever you have and buy a generator if you don't have the energy to fight.

That what it seems like with the tone, I have a generator I use, I'm even considering an alternative power solution, but my fear is the freezer as 4 to 6 hours a day might not keep things safe. I just called a Solar guy to give me an estimate.

I dunno where to start from cos I cant even afford to pay a third of that amount which I'm sure he's not ready to accept. The worse thing is that PHED only brings power 3nights in a week.

I did, but all they could say was that I should go n plead with him since it's his personal Transformer. I thank God that matter is settled.

Invest in a solar to power your home during the day and some hours at night.

For your refrigerator, run your generator atleast 6 hours every 2 or 3 nights interval.

Get a seperate deep freezer that will contain things you need frozen and won't be opening the freezer that much and another regular refrigerator for your drinks and water.
