Lol, my first thought exactly when I saw the movie for the first time, but what you have to understand is that Donnie Darko was a pretentious "art" movie with an astonishing plot so nebulous as to allow anyone who willingly put in the effort, to derive any meaning they wish. It was an avant garde art flick in the truest sense. As in, it delivers some philosophical statement about the beauty and cruelty of life all wrapped in an alternate timeline.....After reading its interpretation online, i came up with at least 2 of my own theories of what really transpired in that movie, truly, that flick was an undiluted work of art, my advice, try & see the Director's Cut, It's a completely different movie....I think oyaskii will agree with what I've written above.
that's exactly what I despise about it. u don't understand what it's all about just by seeing the movie alone u've got to go online to read it's full review...when I see movies like this I kinda wonder, all this shit's to what 4ucking end. nitori olorun.

No you misunderstood me, of course most movies are fiction, but at least the plot should be possible as in realistic (meaning it could happen) Humans Flipping and flying like birds during a sword fight, is not realistic.

The story line of into The Badlands really improved in season 3, but the directors or producers are way too eager for violence and gore, thus it sacrifice common sense (with good content) for unnecessary fight scenes, most of them look below par to someone that has trained in martial arts before.
This is one of the reasons I said it's unrealistic, a dart takes (at most) half a second to reach its target across 5 meters, but someone will grab a knife and throw it and intercept a dart that was already in motion, this is like the norm here, am sure this fascinate young kids - not me.

What I do now is i skip the fight scenes and only watch the dialogs, this has made watching it a bit bearable for me.
You most definitely never watched any Wuxia movie. You're absolutely unqualified to give any opinion on Into The Badlands. Abeg stick to your "realistic" options and leave the Badlands for us.

You said exactly the same thing to me when I called you out on this issue just a few days ago. Apparently anyone that likes a well choreographed martial art-themed tv show has a poor standard. Nigga please.

Variety is a spice of life. Everyone has their comfort zone, but sometimes, something comes along and forces you to leave your comfort zone, momentarily. My comfort zone is a good and well marinated slow burn, but I also dabble in sci-fi and martial art productions... and I know a good one when they come along. Into the Badlands is no slouch in the martial art department, trust me. The fight scenes are grounded, gritty, aesthetically pleasing, and most importantly, realistic. People do actually fight like as portrayed in that show. Certain liberties were taken, sure, but they weren't taken too far.

Comparing it to other shows that have martial art content (Preacher, Banshee, Altered Carbon, Buffy, Daredevil] etc) ITBL fares pretty well indeed. It has high production values, a huge chunk of which were dedicated to making the fight scenes look realistic and spectacular - none of that shaky camera stuff that are synonymous with low budget productions. The lead is also a martial artist in real life. I mean, what more can one ask for in a tv show that has it's principal theme centered on martial arts? If you want more intellectual stuff, then download any HBO stuff already, and leave ITBL for those that enjoy them. I love slow burners, but I also love a good fight (MMA), high tech stuffs (Sci-fi), and a good laugh (comedy).

Variety, bro, variety.

The trailer looks interesting. My only misgiving is it's on Cinemax, an HBO subsidiary notorious for cancelling promising shows.

Well said man! Well said!!

No two Nairalanders have the same username. Something must differentiate every one of us.

And that goes to every other aspects of our daily lives. What catches my fancy, might not be appealing to others.

It's not possible for everyone to like all the movies churned out every blessed day. You like some, you hate some.

That's LIFE and CHOICE.

There is no single movie in this world, which does not have flaws.

Anything and everything created by man will always have errors, whether we admit it or not.

Personally, I'm enjoying Into The Badlands.

Whether the fight scenes are lit or not. I'm grateful to God that, I can see the fight, hear the dialogues and enjoy it.

Yeah, there is something for everyone.

Like Scott Adkins said in his Batman audition
"one man's tool is another man's weapon".

Variety, bro, variety.

When you mean the fights scenes are realistic do you mean you can apply these techniques in real life?
I don't expect you to see this from my point of view, your ITBL is just average when it comes to fight scenes don't be deceived by the "quantity" of fight scenes in these series non of them have quality. Where ITBL scores high for me is indeed the plot, it beats the fights hands down.
You talk of mma like it's and art for exhibition, an mma fighter will leave the room if his watching a fight scene in ITBL.

Isreal Adesanya got some of his moves from a movie called Ong Bak, Jon Jones got most of his striking techniques from YouTube videos, do you now see where am coming from?
Most the things done in the fight scenes in ITBL won't cut it in real life, that's why I used the term "unrealistic" here. What you see in ITBL is more like martial art exhibitions.
I study martial arts not movies.
If you argue like a martial artist then we will come to a common ground, but clearly you are not,
So will agree to disagree.

I understand your take on variety, but damn just because I don't like rice does that mean I will eat a half cooked rice when I want to eat rice?
Am watching season 3 now but without the fight scenes, I take back what I said before ITBL has a good plot, I was just blinded by anger from the fight scenes.

Exactly, we just have to enjoy the fantasies. We know it's all a lie. It's only kids that fantasizes on such movies and thinks some one would actually do such.
