Good morning my NL Fam and wishing you guys a wonderful sunday ahead. I've always contemplated the idea of becoming a digital nomad (so that i can work remotely) and it seems the time is now.

I picked up my Passport last month and now i've decided to start by going to relax and work in greece for a whole month (march -> april) - According to my intended local guide, the country is very cold at the moment but the weather will be more friendly by march so yeah, lets wait.

I proceeded to the embassy website, read through the requirements of obtaining a tourist VISA. I just need to keep this thread as a journal while i go through the process.

I could see the requirements differ depending of whether you are a nigerian national or you are an expatriate who is just applying via greek embassy in nigeria.



for the sake of brevity, i will only outline the requirements pertaining to the nigerian nationals:

1. Original certificate of employment of the last three years and employment letter stating the days of leave. -- This is a tough one i work online as a freelancer coder and also manage a plantation/farm so basically i have no employer

2. Salary slips of the last three years -- No one pays me salaries. for the online job, i get paid via paypal, for the farm, well there is no fixed salary structure for me atleast.

3. Bank statement and balance of account over last three years - Certified at least from one Official and from the Head of the Bank (name, surname, rank, signature and bank’s seal). -- Are these people for real shocked This is not a problem but i can only imagine how big the heap of documents will be

4. Hotel reservation – letter (in Greek) by faxing from the hotel with the evidence of the Guest (name, surname, and the number of the passport) for the whole duration of the intended stay, and the price of booking – Certified from the Manager of the hotel (name, surname, signature and the hotel’s seal). -- Pretty straightforward but i have a question - since i will be spending a month and don't intend staying in a single city throughout my stay, can i just submit a reservation covering my first 1 week? I also read that the hotels cancel the reservation if you do not pay within 24hrs. Is this true?

5. Copy of flight ticket or flight reservation including return flight. smiley

6. Travel insurance – Certified at least from one official and from the Head of the insurance company (name, surname, rank, signature and Company’s seal) -- where can i get this please?

Government migration laws have not covered freelancing in most countries. An exception is Germany where freelancing is a recognized profession and freelancers pay a specially created tax to the German government. Requirements are to ensure you can take care of yourself for the period you will be there and that you have non-immigrant intent.

Your best bet may be to register a business name and travel as a CEO. But then, you will need to produce a tax certificate. Alternatively, look for a friend who is willing to give you the accompanying letter as an employee of his or her firm. The 2nd option goes against my personal principles, so you may have to go with the 1st option.

Yes, FIRS has a calculator on their website which you can use. Then get a tax consultant to do it for you.

Stop trying to discourage him. This is just a stepping stone. If he is able to regularise his stay and get Permanent Presidency, he can always move to the fancy EU countries everyone dreams about.

hmm thanks for this boss but i got one more. I have been doing business using my personal bank account and don't have a business bank account
at the moment.

now i have so many thoughts:

1. will i need to upgrade the personal account to a business? Also, since the earnings are mainly from online freelance and farming - will i be taxed by FIRS based on both or only farming?

i will proceed to the tax consultant's office tommorow but i want to be armed with as much info as i can get tonight.

Yea so I am talking to a travel agent since I’ve not been able to pay tax due to other stuffs taking my time. The travel agent said the CAC certificate with a letter detailing how I’m earning money is enough for applying for this visa. I think it won’t hurt to go in that direction or what do My bosses think? Go to a tax office and pay a direct self assessment tax. It should be about 10k and they'll issue you a tax certificate for the last 3 years.

Its enough to cover you.

My people help me oo, I am at the tax office and this guy here is telling me I need to pay minimum 100k tax for the past 3 years in order to pass the visa interview at the embassy- he said the will confirm how much I’ve paid in taxes and relate it to my income over the past 3 years. And if they do not correlate properly I would be rejected. I’m speechless right now

Please, can anyone here who has experience obtaining Greece student visa help me. I have university admission for Greece. I would like to know if the embassy would not object to my sponsor sending me money every month or does the Greece embassy expect all the money, living expenses be paid into my bank account before granting visa? My sponsor says he can only send me money every month and I don't know whether this will work in my favour. I also have some euros in my own account but not much Please, help if you have information. Firstly, there’s a superb climate and it’s never been very cold there, and secondly I work as a freelancer, so I don’t have to look for a new job and there are very hospitable people there. I really really want this, but I have a fear of something new and unknown ...
For the first time in Athens, I was with my group a couple of years ago, and it was a very cool trip. We thought it would be boring there, but after we found places to visit in athens on the Internet, we realized that this would be an unforgettable journey. Just imagine, we did not even have time to visit all the places in 2 weeks. It was after this trip that I fell in love with Greece. So maybe we will go there together
