Your point of argument is faulty! Everybody knows the whole Madrid as a squad has been on a declining for like 2 seasons now. Yes they managed to win champions League last season but the signs of weakness were there. That's why Zidane left, and PART of the reasons CR7 too left. If Modric was not at that midfield, there is high probability that Madrid won't win cuz CR7 won't see quality supplies of ball to score. So, CR7 contribution was significant, but Modric contribution that last season was much more significant than his. Except you want to tell me that all the professionals that voted him were fools or they did that solely on world cup performance where he equally had less goals than CR7. CR7 is naturally a better player but for that season, Modric top him in contribution to Madrid. But I must say that he has also dropped this season.

Modric contribution to the team was more than his (CR7) last season, hence his being crowned as world best. Yes Ronaldo had more goals than him in country and club yet his (Modric) contribution was more. Yes goals determine the winner of games, but the goal scorer is not always the biggest contributor to the team. That's why Ronaldinho was the world best ahead Eto'o and Henry in their time, Canavaro, a defender won world best, Figo, Zidane etc won world best despite not being the highest goal scorers.
